I had the same problem with my miscarriage and it was due to depression and hormones. My body still believed I was pregnant and didnt recognize that I m/c so I had a d&c. I wouldnt worry about the overeating - it's a lot healthier way to handle your sadness than some other alternatives. I'm sorry to hear about your loss and hope that you get some very positive news your way soon!
I'm going thru the same thing. I usually eat pretty good and say away from gluten but after my miscarriage, I ate everything in site! I've gained a few pounds and I'm trying to do better now. I'm sorry to say, mine was depression once my hormones got back to normal. I hope you feel better and I'm so sorry you have to go thru this.
Take care.
I'm sorry for your loss, it may be depression.
First of all, I'm sorry for your loss. I've been there before and it's very difficult.
Now...there are two main reasons for overeating/weight gain after a miscarriage. One reason is simple..hormones. Your body still retains pregnancy hormones for awhile, so it takes the body a little bit of time to figure out that it's not pregnant and to let go of the pregnancy tendencies.
The Other reason is a little more complicated....depression. Depression can cause even a woman who hasn't miscarried to seriously overeat, and since you just went through something very traumatic and potentially depressing, it goes to figure that you might be eating as a coping mechanism.
I gained somewhere around 25/30lbs after my miscarriage in 2007. Unfortunately that was also right around my wedding...so I don't show ANYONE my wedding pictures which is heartbreaking...but I can't handle how fat I was :(. So I understand how frustrating it is...but it's important to realize what's going on with your body (i did NOT realize it) and take care of it before it's too late.
If you think you might be depressed, see your doctor and ask if they think you might need treatment...otherwise just pay attention to what you're eating and try to eat healthy things instead of bad things, and exercise as much as possible....especially if you're planning to TTC again.
