I dunno about going while you're pregnant...I did Shaolin Goju and it's a fairly high-impact martial art....this is my second pregnancy and you're very vulnerable in the early stages. Katas and continuing to practice would be a good idea like Faye said it would promote a flow of energies and keep your center balanced....but something like Tai-Chi (I know, wussy martial arts) is way better for a pregnant woman than something that could lead to potential strikes. All it takes is for someone not to pull their punch during a spar and you've done potential harm....early in pregnancy of course the baby is generally protected by a bony protuberance in your pelvis, but it's still a risk. I mean yeah you could go, but say you conceive earlier than you think and take a kick to the belly...is it worth the risk? It's up to you, of course, but I would maybe skip the sparring like I said and continue the Katas. :) Good luck hope you conceive soon...SSBD to you! :)
You're welcome! Yeah even when you are pregnant you can go BUT don't do any high-risk exercise or let anyone punch you. Doing martial arts is good for the stretching part, which you will certainly need when you are preggers and can't tie your own shoes anymore lol. Also if you want to look at the karmic part of it, most martial arts help with your energy flow and makes your energies balance ;-)
I went last night and it felt great as always. I will continue to go until I get pregnant and it gets uncomfortable.
Thank-you
Hey,
I practice (or used to lol) Ninjutsu, which is somehow like high impact karate but with a mix of jiujitsu, judo, etc, so its all about being thrown to the ground, rolling around, etc. I didn't stop going to class while trying to conceive. I didn't even know I was pregnant until 6 weeks into the pregnancy and I didn't skip one class till then. SO I think you are safe :)
My advice would be to stop participating if you're trying to conceive...you could conceive at any point in your cycle and while it wouldn't pose a HUGE risk at the earliest stages, it's not worth the risk! maybe you can still do the Kata without the actual sparring?
