ariana shivers--is this normal?

my daughter is 7 months old and i just noticed she has started this shivering thing. i didn't think much of it until it became a regular thing. now she does it often throughout the day as if she is cold. but she'll do it regardless of the temp in the room. she did it just a few minutes ago when she was wrapped up in a big blanket AND was wearing pjs--and i was burning up!
i dont think its temperature related.. has anyone else's baby ever done this? what causes it? should i be concerned?
it looks much like how we would shiver when we get the chills for a second.

this is interesting to me, im not putting down ecing or anything but i am just curious what the benefits are supposed to be? why does it better whether you do that or potty train at 2 years?
im sure you use less diapers .. but for those who don't care a whole lot about environmental things what would the benefits be? to me it just sounds more inconvenient.
i definitely think babies pee in their sleep, otherwise why else is ariana's diaper soaked when i get her out of bed?

THey do not call it potty training becasue there is NO potty training involved. It is clearly baby tells you when they ahve to eliminate or you follow cues. Potty training does not happen only with babies who wear diapers and teach themselves that their pants are a tolilet more or less, then you have to retrain them. Babies are born like puppies and will squirm when they need to go, they never go when they sleep, and go at intervals or pee more when they need to have a poo. You should EC her and of course you will have misses but she will always know her pants is nto the potty then. Newborn babies EC and never wear diapers if you EC! Most babies do not go in the car seat and can make a 20-30 min trip to the store or if they fall asleep sometimes you will need to pull over go potty then get going again. Henry is 6 months and he wears his undies at home and to the grocery most of the time. If he sleeps with me for soem  reason I never out a nappie on him as he will sqirm to go. Lot sof babies your little ones age will roll over when sleeping if they sleep through the night and stick their but in the air when they are peeing. ECing 6 months or older is considered late starters. Babies also have more misses when they meet milestones like rolling over, walking, etc...

I would do it with her! If she tells you then I am sure she would pick up real fast! The baby bijorn litttle potty is the best! her age can get on and off themselfs! I need to get Henry one but was waiting for him to crawl. He is picky though and loves his seat! It is round and squishy and go on his potty (saftey first I think) or goes on the big potty. I started him on the big potty with nothing! He is a boy and you can see where that ended up! Even through the seat when it was down! LOL but he love dit and I cover in a towel:) He refuses sometimes to go when we are out cuz he won't do public potties anymroe as he does nto like me holding him over it.

There is a EC yahoo chat group you should get in. I am on it and there are all EC moms and they answer your questions plus there is lots of info in the files there!

Interesting about EC. How old is your little one?
I started to put my little one on the potty at 10 months, and she will go almost everytime. . Like you, I could tell when she had to go, so I tried on a whim. I was shocked when she went immediately. I repeated 2 more times that day, with the same result.  Of course I knew you can't "potty train" such a little one, but I did it to save on diapers. I wonder if I had been more persistent, it would have gone even further? She's 16 months now and still going several times a day, sometimes even asking. But there's still plenty of wet diapers. I am sure if I paid more attention we could eliminate diapers. But she definitely isn't mature enough to potty train.

My daughter did this ALL the time from about 7 months to a year!  Others are right, it was almost always when she was eliminating but sometimes it was random, or when she was excited or overstimulated.

oh thats amazing i had no idea you could do that.. ive never even heard of it!! well shes not been taught to do that so i doubt its related to her shivering, but a neat thing to hear about nonetheless!!

elimination communication, it is baby communicating when he has to go potty as he does when hungry or tired etc.... It works and it is fun and easy!

I started when he was 2 months and took him upin waking and when he had to poo he would tell me with cues. He has only had maybe 4-7 poo diapers since and he is over 6 months. I started full time at 3 months. Babies do not go potty when asleep and will wake up some like we do and go. I take him if he wakes up to eat at night and after naps and morning, after he nurses each time he goes and other times like every 30-40 min he will have to pee. I thought it was a joke and always diapered my others. But when I was pregnatn with Henry I learned about it and since I always knew when he was going poo I thought to sit him on the potty.(most EC'ers hold them over the potty, but he has a potty chair and seat that snaps on the toilet seat) ANyway he went and it scared him but I said Horray and he smiled then when he had to go from then on he has told me and gone on the potty (poo that is unless we are out he has been on strick to go out in public since the cold weather came) Anyway when he goes he smiles big and when he is done he first would arch his back but now says "UP". I love it and it really is communication and not potty training like osme think or say!!! There is NO WAY you can make a baby go potty on a potty if they don;t want to! He clearly knows what he is doing and knows when he has to go. He wears undies at hoe and cloth sometimes depending on what I am doing aorung the house and wears cloth diapers when we go out, but undies at families houses.

Look on You tube for videos, and the EC store online and EC.com has lots of info. He does not go in the tub, pool and does not pee when his clothes are off ever! He wears undies when he sleeps with me in my bed and NEVER has wet the bed or clothes! He goes potty for Daddy, grandma, aunts, sisters, brothers, and me. You ought to try it!

I agree with Ashlen.  Call her dr about this.

While this could be benign, it could also indicate something more serious is going on (like a neurological problem).  Its best to mention this to her dr and see what they want you to do.

Well that depends....a newborn/infant's nervous system will grow in leaps and bounds. right after birth, all babies have a startle reflex that involves their entire body because their nervous system hasn't developed fully yet, so their "wires get crossed," if you will, and everything kinda shorts out for a second.....sometime in the first year, the nervous system makes another growth spurt because the baby's motor skills are developing from basic newborn skills into more complicated infant skills.

that being said, it's worth asking your ped about. I say that because I didn't have that issue with Kahlan so I can't guarantee that it's normal...but I do know that her nervous system is probably beginning to get information overload now that she's moving into different stages of her development. Still...is her ped's office open this week? always better to call and ask and be told it's normal or to come in just to be on the safe side than worry yourself :-). I'd say if the incidents increase or are accompanied by any other odd movements you should call IMMEDIATELY.
