Took castor oil.. need some info please.

I took castor oil about 2 1/2 hours ago.. nothing has happened yet. I was wondering, for those of you who have taken it or know someone who has, how long did it take to work if it did? Or did it not work at all?

Please don't tell me anything negative about castor oil, I got the okay from my doctor.

I'm just getting the sweep for now. But if I make it to 40 weeks and he hasn't decided to come on his own I will have to be induced bc of my circumstances.

Even medical induction only works if your body is ready. That's why so many women end up with a c section with inductions. At 38 weeks, you could have up to 4 weeks before your body is ready.

It is a myth it does not pass to the baby. Baby will not have a bowel movement due to castro oil my aunt is a doctor and she her self did 2 tablespoons and then repeated 3 hrs later,  she also had me and my sister inlaw due it. My sil has had all 3 of her girls from doing this.. :)

I took one teaspoon with my first and walked around the mall. I was in labor within a couple hours. It did not make me have to go to the bathroom at all.

Remember that a due date is just an estimate & those few weeks you have left can really make a difference in your growing baby ;) not judging, I tried it with my last pregnancy too (nothing happened) and ended up becoming impatient, got induced (horrible experience compared to my first pregnancy which I didn't try anything & water just broke on its own) & realized that things really do go better In labor when you let baby come on its own! Besides, Just these two tbsps alone have given me HORRIBLE smelly gas.. yuck! Lol sorry tmi I know.

I really wasn't wanting to take anymore bc I was told if it would work 2 tbsps would be enough. I don't want to over do it or cause my baby to have a bowel movement.

U need to take another dose 3 hrs after make sure u are drinking at least a glass of water a hr take 2 tablespoons with 3 oz orange juice.

How far along are you why you just didn't ask your doc to induce you I'm 40 weeks I get induced tomorrow I'm sure if they say yes to that they'll say yes to induction

@mommy2be I just started drinking some water and made my first bm.. I think that's making it work. I read it could take up to 24 hours to put you in labor if it does. I will keep drinking water, thanks !(:

I told myself I wouldn't take anymore if this didn't work. I got the castor oil from my grandmothers house so that's all that was left was two tbsps. I have tried everything under the sun, I've been relaxing it's just hard to bc I'm in a lot of pain and my energy is gone no matter how much I rest.  I'm just gonna go ahead with the sweep Tuesday if LO doesn't decide to come on his own by then and hope that works.

It might work ... But it might just make you sick and uncomfortable so just wait and see what happens but drink lots of water so u won't get dehydrated

Yes. That was plenty. I wouldn't do more. You don't want to make your self sick. Your body is starting the process. Stressing about it can delay or even stop it. Just let it happen. Stay upright as much as you can to let gravity do the work for you. Walk, sit on the edge of the couch or an exercise ball. Take a warm bath. Get a pedicure or a massage. Those are much better ways than castor oil. Yuck.

Im 70% effaced and 2 1/2 cm dilated.. the First time i took 3 tblspoons of castor oil & nothing at all happened. Didnt go into labor or it didn't make me use the restroom. Then a wk after that I tried it again but only 2 tblspoons & still nothin at all lol

I got an okay from my Doctor too

Yeah I was surprised as well. I'm almost 3 cm and 70% effaced. I will be getting a membrane sweep Tuesday if LO doesn't come. She said this would give me diarrhea but I haven't had to go to the bathroom at all. I took two tablespoons, was that enough?

I'm surprised your doc gave you the OK. Many don't anymore. It only had a slight possibility of working if your body has already started the process.
The absolute best thing you can do to encourage your labor to progress is relax. Relaxing, feeling loved and happy causes your body to produce oxytocin, the hormone responsible for starting labor.
