My midwife says to only take milk of magnesia for constipation as needed. But, naturally it tastes terrible.
I was constipated my entire first trimester and I know your pain! I am now halfway thru my second trimester and havent been so bad, but what did work for me was a breakfast of two slices of double fiber whole wheat toast, activia yogurt, a hard boiled egg, and a full glass of water each morning.Im not an expert by any means but it worked for me after only a few days of following this regimen.I hate yogurt but the cherry one wasnt so bad....
being constipated is normal for pregnancy. Progesterone slows your metabolism (hence the toxic gas as well!)
Something like metamucil or other fibre supplement is better. it needs to be really mild. Definately check with your Doc..
