well we ended up calling the doc and taking her to childrens; the pediatrician there said that sometimes their respiratory tract grows faster than the rest of their body and causes that noise and eventually they'll outgrow it. thats the only explanation i got. :( but she said its not linked with sids or anything like that so thats good news..now i dont have to worry :)
my baby does it to sometimes when she is over excited aswell! it can e differnt for every child yours just might do it on her back where as mine does it in any position it verys for all and can depend on the sevarity of the case.
yeah i read something on the internet about recording it. im going to do that. i phoned after hours and they paged the doctor so now i guess we wait. they charge a $10 fee for non-emergency calls..how dumb is that? but anyways id rather be safe than sorry; its worth it.
she seems to do it the most when i am playing with her and she is excited. and always does it on her back, never when she is upright.
it is just complety random when it happends and its the same with my daughter and it dosent have to be a continues thing..my baby will do it a few times then nothing for a few mins then again then nothing for like an hour then start again there is no why to know when it will happen but i do sugest that if your going to bring her to the doc for it recorde it happening so they will be able to see it because i remember going to the doc over and over and over and every time they would just check her breathing and if she was fine they would ignore anything i said .. and since i couldnt make her do it on cue for then lol i just recorded it happening so that when i went i had proof! she will not be in distress but it is deff somthing that they need to know about!! so i would make the call..
i dont if she has the actual laryn whatever it is but i think she has the stridor...ugh i am debating on phoning the doc. she shows no signs of distress so i just dont know.
yes that sounds just like it! only difference is she doesn't do it continually like those babies on youtube, she will gasp once and then be normal for a minute and then gasp again. but the noise sounds the exact same.
can it come on suddenly? she was diagnosed with the reflux around 6 weeks and she is 4 months old now. never done this before until now
losingmymindinga: we do all that...this is a new development she just started the gasping like two days ago. shes always kept at an incline after she eats cause shes always being held and played with haha. shes a spoiled baby...she hardly ever lays down.
smjmekg: thanks!! idk if ive checked the post since but i appreciate it a lot!! the funeral was so sad today but his family seems to be handling it well. the grandkids are having a tough time burrying two grandfathers within a year, but what can you do? i am just here for him as much as i can.
elisha: if the acid was coming up wouldn't she be crying with it? she shows no signs of pain. im about to look up a video of it on youtube now.
yes my daughter does the same i would give her ped a ring to see what he/she says.
it may be that she needs a stronger medication if she is old enof , for some the zantac will just help soothe like tumes would for hearturn but not really treat the problem it might e worth asking if they could try her on a PPI like prevacid. she may also just be gasping because when you lay her down flat the acid will come up and it catches them off gard and its there way of trying to keep it down.
Don't have any advice for Ariana, but I'm sorry about your hubby's grandfather. I saw your prayer post, and commented on it.
never mind i just reread your post.
It still sounds like reflux to me. She should be kept at an incline while feeding and for about a half an hour after each feeding. Also, try not to move her around too much and make sure to burp her REALLY well after each feeding. Those, along with the rice and the zantac should help some.
sometimes those two tricks don't always do it by themselves. Is she doing this when she's laying flat or when she's reclined?
I'm on my husbands phone which I hate so it'll be short but yes Elisha it sounds high pitched but very unlike her squeals when she is happy. Much like when adults gasp. We do have a childrens hospital but were with family for stephens grandfathers funeral so it's not possible to leave. I have her ped cell number...maybe I'll phone him. Ugh idk it sounds like shes gasping for air but she isn't in distress. We just increased her zantac dose to 1.5 mL twice a day and she's on rice. :(
def sounds like reflux....emi had it and made those weird sounds....her ped gave us a rx for zantac
it could very well be from him being a preemie BUT there are 2 differnt kinds of the larangomalasia .. if it is because of reflux it can be controlled over time with medication, the other kind is in fault of under developemnt of a flap of some sort in there throat.. and with your son being a preemie this could be the case for him and it could e something that requiers surgery.. so i really think you should get him in to be seen by his doctor !
Ok I was reading more on this... he'll outgrow it it seems... He had it pretty bad a few weeks ago and he is very loud when he does have it currently. He doesn't get it that often anymore... glad to hear he'll be ok.. I wonder if he developed this cuz he was a preemie? Well he was born at 36 weeks..
Oh! Sorry to post about this.. don't mean to be OT... but I guess if I hadn't of read this thread, I wouldn't have learned that my son has this condition as I knew he had something but didn't know what!! :) Again, sorry, but not too sorry as I learned something! :) lol

My son makes that exact noise. Its not as bad tho as it used to be when he was younger (he's now 10 weeks). I thought it was weird, but he's breathing ok so I don't pay any attention to it. Once I get health insurance for him I'm going to mention it to his dr.
Do they grow out of this? He kinda seems to be growing out of it.
Lisa
I wouldn't lay her flat on her back. She may need to sleep slightly reclined so she doesn't choke in her sleep. Call the doc in the morning (the ER isn't going to do anything unless it is a Children's Hospital).
I would definately take her in to be evaluated..But, in my experience, it sounds like acid reflux...My son had it severe, and now my daughter(7weeks old) has it..She is on a formula that has rice starch in it which helps alot...Let us know what the outcome is.Good luck
oh and if it is this she needs to see an ENT!
dose it sound like a high piched squiling? like she is trying to breath in and makes a funny noise but she is breathing and fine? and when she does this noise dose her rib cage kinda suck in?the reason i ask this is because my daugther has larangomalasia witch is a spasm in there throat ( in simple terms) witch is not really dangerous if there not turning blue obviously and in most cases it would not be. My daughter also hase reflux witch i think youve said befor that your baby dose aswell and this can cause these spasm, she my need a stronger meds for her reflux to stop the milk from coming up ....message me if you need more on it and if it helps you can go on youtube and type in larangomalasia to see a video of what the sound is, that might help..umm that all i can think off right now..
I'm with Linzola. Lily (and my other kids for that matter) does that when some of her food comes back up and she's trying to swallow it or it catches her off guard and sometimes gets into her sinuses.
Being that she's so small I would suggest the ER sweets!!
I agree with Linzola....any time you think there's something wrong and I think gasping/choking noises would be cause for concern even if she has no signs of distress. so I would say get her checked ASAP to be safe.
sounds like reflux to be honest... If your really concerned it wouldnt hurt to go to Urgent Care or the Er as a procation.... Keep us updated
