Thank you all for your responses, really appreciated.
To those who wrote about D&C, D&C is only for first trimester abortions and not the second one. As I am in the second trimester now, I would need D&E. So my question was about D&E, not D&C.
D&C and D&E are very different
D&C uses a suction to take out the products, its not as rough on the uterine wall and is less risky than the traditonal d&e.
D&E uses a tool that scraps off the layer of the uterine walll..
I would speak to the doctor to see if both options are available as a d&c may be now since they are more and more common now..
I had a d&c and my doctor wanted me to wait 3 cycles.. I waited 2 cycles then tried again but didnt get pregnant until after the 3 cycles anyways... I got pregnant in my 3rd month of ttc, which was about 5-6 months after the d&c
Your Dr. is going to tell you how soon you can try. I just had a D&C on friday and my Dr. said to give my body one normal cycle and that after that I can go ahead and start trying again. He said they use to say wait 3 months but that research says one cycle is adequete, but still ask because I dont know if it is diffrent for a D&E. Also, it depends on when you feel ready emotionally!
I would like to recommend a friends blog. booferd.blogspot.com she had similar experiences and has been open about sharing this. It may help or may not. Good luck with your tough decisions.
if you let your body do it job naturally then you can start trying again shortly after. If not then normally a Doctor will say 6 mths.
My sister lost her 1st baby at 18 weeks, she had a d&c. Her Dr asked her to wait at least 6 months for her body to get back to normal. She was able to get pregnant again. I would ask your Dr what his opinions are.
