baby monitor belt in labor

They started antibiotics and pitocen about 8am and strapped the belt that monitors contractions and such to my belly. I'm so tired of just laying here my butt is falling asleep from sitting in the bed so long. Do I have to keep it on until labor is full going or what!? With my first I was allowed to walk around at least stand up in getting frustrated!!

Breathe through it and have a focal point. I know one lady put her baby's name up on the board in her room and thats what she focused on to get through it.

Yay! Hey did your midwife say anything about turning off the pitocen when you've progressed enough? That way you could probably walk around a bit more.

Just keep trying. If nothing else it's a few minutes on your feet and off the bed. Even those few minutes of gravity can help bring the baby down more and improve your labor. As long as she doesn't follow you in the bathroom, just go in, lock the door and pace or do squats for a few minutes. Then flush the toilet and wash up and obediently go back to bed for another twenty minutes!

Dont they have a mobile monitor? My hospital does.  Or couldnt you at least stand next to the bed or sit on a pregnancy ball next to the bed.  When my mobile monitor acted up they still let me stand next to the bed and pace right there and bounce on the ball.  Sorry they aren't letting you stand.  With csections, after being on those uncomfortable beds for days in a row I have a numb bum for up to a month after, worst thing ever.  Hope you can get them to let u up!

They did that to me with my first born because my doctor wouldn't be in until the next morning and it was like 10 at night and I was in labor 18 hours. I could've had him in like 10 hours but they put me off a long time! I was a Ftm so I didn't think about it but this time I'm walking regardless of what they say unless it's a medical reason stopping me! Not taking any of those nurses bull s hit this time!!

Yes being induced and that does make sense thanks! I am so mad though I hate sitting it's killing my back! She never answered me as to why I can't but my midwife should be here in half hour so I'll tell her!

Sounds like your being induced??? I think they want 24-7 monitoring because of the pitocin. They wanna make sure your babys heart rate doesn't drop.

You might have done this already, but I just thought I could suggest it- Have you asked why they want to keep you laying down? I just feel if there aren't medical reasons to keep you in bed they should give you the opportunity to get up now and then and be allowed to walk a bit. I know if it was me I would have a fit, lol. Anyways, best of luck to you- I'm excited you'll be meeting your baby soon!  ;)

Lol doulamommy! I've been doing that to but it makes my monitor beep so nurse runs in here to make sure I'm stuck back in bed right after I go lol. I almost feel like crying I really wanted to be able to walk around but now my back hurts so much I think I'll have to get the epidural

I cheated. I used the bathroom every twenty to thirty minutes because that's the only way they'd let me of the monitor and out of bed while my pitocen was running. Even if it's just a few steps from the bathroom to the bed, it's a few more than you might otherwise get.

I'm sure you can walk around! They might even have a birthing ball you can ask for to help get things going
