Whats the purpose for baby oil? I asked my mother & she says its not really a necessity . As well others have said they've never really used it before.

I have never used baby oil and my daughter is almost 2. When she got cradle cap I just used baby lotion on it. Baby oil seems too messy.

Wishes2891, that's a scary thought! Drowning because of drinking oil. Is there alternatives to oil for cradle cap?

Tsaggs, thank you!! Lotion sounds like its so much better though for skin.

I've only used it on myself once when I uses it as an alternative to a&d for healing a tattoo & I didn't like how it felt ! Lol

The reason you use baby oil or my lotion is because babies skim dries out three times faster than ours. It keeps there skin moist .

They used to use it as a moisturizer for baby's skin and if your baby develops cradle cap it makes it easier to comb out the flakes. It's not as popular now bc there are tons of lotions that are safer. The oil isn't unsafe to use but when baby reaches toddler stage it can look like something to drink and some toddlers have died bc it's gotten into their lungs coating them and basically they drown without ever being in water. I never used it on any of my kids except one who had cradle cap and I only needed it a few times so its definitely not a necessity.
