Midwife vs. Doctor

I went for my 3 month check-up yesterday and my doctor was not in.  I hadn't seen my doctor yet thus far in my pregnancy so, they wanted me to see a CNM.  I was fine with it, and I really liked her.  I scheduled my four month appointment with the CNM, and I was wondering if anyone had had any experiences with a CNM and/or doctor and what there preference was.  I would also like to know personal experiences with a midwife.  The midwife I am seeing works closely with 2 OB/GYN's and will call them if there is ever any problem.  Just wondering....

I've had a cnm for all my gyno needs for the last ten years...she doesn't deliver babies though...she only does exams and works out of my local doctor's office...I practically cried when she told me that she couldn't deliver my baby and that I'd have to go to an OBGYN or another hospital that was too far for my liking to have a cnm (that wasnt' her) so I went with a recommendation for a certain OBGYN...I had a mc and plan on returning to the OBGYN I had because my husband and I really liked him.

I was released from my doc to a Midwife and I really like her as opposed to a my Obgyn, she is very thorough, and has had a baby herself unlike my Ob thats a man, even though he has delivered a ton of babies I still feel more confident in listening to my midwife and asking her questions.

I really liked the CNM and she really seemed to take interest in me and how I was feeling.  I guess I am just kind of nervous because this is my first pregnancy and I am worried something will go wrong.  But I do feel comfortable with the CNM.  I think I will be happy with the CNM, but there is always that anxiety in the back of my mind.

I was given the choice at my ob's office.  I am going to be seeing the CNM unless there are any complications.  My DD was delivered by a CNM.  My experience with her was awsome.  I also know all the CNM where I go now so I am pretty confortable with the idea.  I know if something should come up they do have a couple of OB's there as well.

I personally am seeing an OB only because she also performed my surgery a year ago to have a large ovarian cyst removed and has been supportive of me and my concerns even before I got pregnant. She has stuck by me since before the pregnancy assuring me that I would not have trouble getting pregnant after the surgery and throuhgout my pregnancy (32.5 weeks now) she has been an excellent support system. She doesn't brush aside my concerns and everything I have a question about or am not sure about she is willing to take the time to explain or perform extra tests just to ease my mind. I do find however that most doctor's are not as caring and amazing as she is and so had it not been for my experience with her previous to my pregnancy I would have considered a Midwife. I actually saw one very early on in the pregnancy because the office I go to makes you schedule at least one visit with the CNM. I liked her very much but again was just more comfortable with my doctor. I think it is all personal choice and both options are excellent ones, it just matters which is a better fit for you. You want to be comfortable during your pregnancy and that's all that matters.
