blood and urine tests

Hey girls.
I know you guys are pretty educated and thought I would ask you while I wait until I see my dr.
I have a sheet of my prenatal blood work I have to get completed and tried to today but was unaware that they wanted me to fast for it...I dont understand why I am fasting for my blood work, but anyhow.
When I went in I felt as though I had a bladder infection, so she gave me a cup for a sample when I was going in to the lab to give to them..
I noticed on the form amongst everything that was checked off, there was urine-chemical and then the urine for the infection..cant remember what it was for the technical name now. Why would they be doing a chemical test? I am feeling very offended at this time as I feel they are checking for drugs in my system. Can anyone tell me what its for, if not for that?
I called the dr.s office and asked, and the receptionist said she hasnt heard of anyone say anything regarding that, I told her I was upset. I plan on talking to the dr about this my next visit.
I am not worried that they will find anything, as I don't do drugs or alchohol, even when I am not preggers.
It was the nurse practitioner that filled out the papers.
Can anyone put my mind at ease here. Thanks.
Hope everyone is doing well.

I'm not exactly sure what tests they are doing on you, but my dr office did do a drug test on me without my knowledge. They just lumped it in with the other tests. They probably do it because a lot of drug users won't admit to their dr's that they use. When dealing with pregnancy, it's only fair that your dr has all the correct information up front and can help treat and guide you in the right direction. I am sorry you were so offended by the test, but just realize it is for your baby's best health interest. I am not a drug user either and was not upset by the test, but was taken back a bit when I learned they had done the test. I guess I will ask from now on why my blood is being taken.

It is possible they are doing a chemical-urine test to check for blood in your urine.  This would indicate a bladder infection (possibly kidney infection).  I dont' think all "chemical" tests are checking for drugs.  If you had indicated a possible UTI, then it would make sense they would check for blood in the urine.

Here is a link regarding these type of tests:
