blood test for down syndrome

How accurate is this blood test? I thought I heard of it having a lot of false positives but I'm not sure. I have my dr apt in 5 hours and I'm going to get it done.

If your going to love the baby regardless it's not worth putting yourself through the stress yes the needle is amnio an does carry a risk of Mc.

I don't think I'm gonna get it now. I just don't want to go through all the other testing if it comes back high. And I know they do a test and stick a needle in your belly and test the fluid...that seems very scary and dangerous foe the baby! Everything is just so new to me and my dr never explains anything. Thanks for all the help ladies!

Test lik those arent accurate. Its a screening and if anything shows up they will send you in for further testing. They get a lot of false positives and there is no way of knowing untik your baby is actually here. If i was you i wouldnt stress is because if there is not history on either side of the family chances are slim.

I just read another one of your posts the nuchal is done 11+5-14weeks so as your over it will be the quad blood test I had this done 2 weeks back and got a low risk but if if comes back high risk you will be offered with another scan to check the soft markers for apparent things like downs or an amnio which is more invasive just remember even with a high risk result it doesn't guarantee u till you have either another scan amnio or give birth sometimes it will just help you prepare for future decisions. Hope your ok x

That's why I still want to get it just bc I get another ultrasound lol idk though I guess ill get it done and whatever it says ill just accept and try not to stress if its not what I want to hear

My sister had all the testing done for her daughter and everything came back good nothing was wrong with the baby well when she was born they found out she was downs my sister was so surprised so was everyone else shes 3 yrs old now and doing really good!! I got the testing done but only cuz they gave me an extra ultrasound which comes with bloodwork to thats it not that I really care if my baby is downs or not I will still love her all the same!! I had a false positive. If I ever get pregnant again I'm not doing those stupid tests. Why add stressful to your life if you're going to love the baby regardless.
Also if you decide to get the amnio testing there are still false positives with thats plus you have a risk of late term miscarage. To me my babys life would concern me more than some inaccurate test results.

Are you having the nuchal scan an  bloods or the quad test as they are both different  ratios If you are given a high risk with either you will be offered an amnio which will tell you if your baby has downs or not so you can prepare for what ever steps you would like to take next

All women are different in saying that when I had it done with my daughter if it had came back high I was to try and prepare myself for the difficulties of a downs baby. When downs babies are born the have a very difficult time latching on to the boob and also just naturally cry more then usual and plus a long list of other things. If it doesn't matter to you then I'd say don't take it cuz all you will do is worry about it if the numbers come back high.

Hmm I'm not sure of I want it or not. I will love this baby either way no matter what but I'm afraid of it coming positive and me being stressed like that.  Guess ill have to make up my mind soon! Thanks for the help

To me they aren't all that accurate. My friend had one a few months ago and her son supposedly was going to have downs and she was so upset crying all the time. When she went in to labor her son was completely normal no downs. She actually wanted to sue the Dr for the stress she endured during the last few months. If your numbers come out high they also check for what is called "Soft Markers". Like the measurement behind the neck also the spacing in between the fingers and the curve of the nose profile.
