bothered by comment by doctor

This has been bothering me all day and I need to get it out. This morning I had a doctors appointment just a routine prenatal apt, I'm 17w4days. I have a history of an eating disorder that my doctor is aware of and she monitors closely... well i hadn't been gaining any weight when I saw her two weeks ago, so we had a talk about an eating plan and i followed it closely and today I was weighed and I've gained 5 pounds in two weeks. Bringing me from 125 to 130, and im 5'7. Which I thought was great and I was really proud of myself! But her response to seeing the weight gain was " wow slow down a bit you don't want to gain 80 pounds because then we wont recognize you!" This has been bugging me all day long. She was so admit about me gaining weight then I finally do and its too much? I don't think gaining a total of 5 pound in almost 18 weeks is a lot. I just felt she was insensitive and i can't seem to shake it.  I almost want to cry typing this. Anyway, that's my rant!

I'm 24 weeks Thurs. I've gained Ten in six months total from my appt last week (monthly appointment) I was there two weeks before for a sinus and when I returned last week had gained 4 = ten. I asked my doc if I'm gaining too fast or if I'm OK he showed no worries and said everything's looking grt. With that in mind I know my eatings picked up so I started walking yesterday since I'm always home after a surgery. Dont listen to your doctor hun.. What they said is very messed up. I would have made it known she made me feel unconfortable. Maybe you should look into a new doc? Good luck keep your head up and doing whats best for u and babys health.

Although some time will have passed b4 ur next visit I would respectfully bring up how u feel. She is human, but so are you & until you can get clarity on her viewpoint those words will keep coming up.

I must be a whale bcuz I started off at 118lbs 5'3 & now weigh 140lbs. Only 26weeks haven't hit 3rd trimester when Ima really gain weight.

Thank you so much ladies! I really love my doctor and she has been so supportive about my struggles and I don't want one bad experience to ruin it because I honestly think she just spoke without thinking, shes human. But either way its stuck in my brain.. I left her office trying to hold back my tears because I didn't want her to know she offended me, but now I'm wishing I would have spoke up because then maybe it wouldn't be bothering me. I'm trying very hard to do what's best for my baby because that's he or she deserves/needs and feeling like my effort where totally invalidated totally striked a nerve.

Sweetie, don't pay it no mind... Ive never personally went thru an eating disorder but my weight has always gone up and down my whole life... My grandmother would make off the wall comments to me like; " ate you making yourself throw up" because I was losing weight and "you sure are getting pretty big, you need to show down on your eating" when I was gaining weight... I think it's a great thing that your gaining some weight for that baby of yours... Keep doing it for the baby and keeping the baby at focus... Congrats!!!

I hate doctors like that!): you aren't even overweight!  And in your second trimester you're supposed to gain I think its like 6-10 pounds. I wouldn't worry about it! Have you thought about seeing another doctor?

Aww sweetie don't get too upset. I understand how you feel tho. I was really heavy a couple months before getting pregnant and then i was diagnosed with diabetes and lost 65 lbs in 3 months. Then i got pregnant and gained 40 back (im 32weeks) and my ******* doctor said "i strongly suggest you consider weight loss surgery after giving birth. You're not going to be able to get to a decent weight on your own"omg i was so close to crying! But then i realized i have llost weight on my own before and no ******* should be able to make me feel like i can't. Doctor or not. So do whatever makes you and baby healthy. Weight can come off :)
