breastfeeding! could really use some help :/

as some of you know I had my son a few days ago and I couldn't breastfeed him right away because of his blood sugar. He is fine now and my boobs are so engorged its extremely painful. The Dr said now is the time to decide if I want to switch from bottles to breast I need to make the change this week if so. My question is should I switch and try to bf or just let him stick with the bottles since he already uses them? Or can I give him both? And if I decide not to bf what can I do to reduce all the swelling and pain? I appreciate any help in advance I'm desperate for answers!

Keep trying, take a nice warm shower before his next feeding or put some warm wet washcloths on your breasts for a few minutes. Don't get discouraged, it takes time :)

Breastfeeding is such an awesome experience and I think it's so much easier than pumping bottles. I'd at least try it. Take a hot shower to help reduce te heavy feeling in your breasts. It really helps.

Http://www.llli.org/ this is the le leche league website, there's forums and lots of info there, and you can find a local le leche league. A breastfeeding coach/consultant can really be a lifesaver, a lot of them will come right to your house to help. A lot of insurance companies will help pay for it. Try to avoid bottles as much as you can until he gets his latch down, you can call and ask the hospital for a piece of infant feeding tube that will attach to a syringe and you can add formula to it and slip the tube in the corner of his mouth while he's breastfeeding to encourage him and get him plenty of milk while yours comes in. You just hold the syringe up and let gravity do its work.

I don't know of any websites but I'd day try to bf why not give it a shot. At least you tried. My son didn't like to bf. So I did it only in the middle of the night.. and then gave bottles through out the day
Just cradle him and tickle his lips with  your nipple. Make sure he gets some of the dark flat part of your boob too ( areola) that way it won't hurt as much. It may be frustrating at first tho. If it hurts real bad when he ***** he might not be latched right

I would say breastfeed if you can. With my daughter i was breastfeeding for 5 month but when i had to go back to work i tried breast and bottle but when she had a bottle she didn't want breast anymore....
If you decide not to.....not much you can do to help the pain. Just have to wait and maybe use some cabbage leaves.

Hey I've bf and bottle fed but I do say breast feeding is a nice way to bond with the baby and really the only way to get your breasts feelin better is to feed him to release the pressure or pump and freeze or if you choose to stick with bottle u can pump and toss it away or I used to take a super hot shower and would leak soo much during that it would release all the pain hope this helps :) congrats on your lil man
