buying used baby stuff

I don't mind buying used baby stuff. And I was considering buying stuff from Craig's list. But someone told me u can't buy used cribs is that true.
Also is there anything I should specifically check for when I consider buying something. I'm a ftm and I'm super nervous.

Alot of the things ive got for baby are second hand, clothes especially, my sis in law had a girl 3 month ago and im having a girl so they are sending me all the clothes etc that she no longer fits into! Also friends who have got kids are giving me lots of things like carriers, baby gates etc.

1sttimmommy, that's exactly what I think of!! Or like a bigger child getting into it and wearing it down, you never know what's worn out on a crib, even if it feels sturdy, and we had a friend in the family that had twin girls, and she bought 2 used cribs (one was a drop side, coincidentally, before they were recalled) and the side dropped and suffocated her, so I'm SO weary about picking a crib, I have my husband check it over like every week, haha!

Don't buy a used car seat. Unless you know it has never been in a car accident and isn't older than 5 years. Those are the 2 big things.things

yeah ktowne is right ive seen parents get in the crib with their babies and that wears them down. you never know how they treated the crib or how is was used. just be careful if you are and double check it before you purchase.
i also dont want to buy a used car seat.

I won't buy a used crib, and my OB told me not to as well, just because you don't know how sturdy the crib is, what it's been through, if there's certain bolts or bolt holes loose that may fall through, that and the car seat are the only 2 things he told me not to buy used. But it's totally up to you! You can always look up the recall list, just make sure you check EVERYTHING on a crib over, and no drop sides!

A lot of places wont sell used cribs because of all the recalls they have on some of them. If u do buy a used crib just make sure it's not recalled

i had a gf buy a crib off kijiji.....there was no problem at all!
