c section

I'm 35 weeks and 5 days and yesterday my doctor and I decided I'm going to need a c section because my baby is getting way too big and we're worried about her shoulders getting stuck. At the very end of my appointment he said that these kinds of c sections normally aren't scheduled before 39 weeks, then he just walked out before I could ask any questions about it. I know it's best to wait as long as possible so the lungs can develop, but I've had 2 biophysical profiles now and they've both shown that her lungs are fully developed. Since her lungs are ready, wouldn't it make sense to take her earlier before she gets too big? She's already dropped and she's still sitting really high so she's basically put of room to grow. Also has anyone been through a scheduled c section? How was your experience and what should I be prepared for?

First to clarify it is NOT the law. It is hospital and insurance policy to cover their collective a**es. If the baby has issues at 39 weeks you can't come back and claim they took the baby to early. My malpractice insurance company made this very clear to me. And I quote " Never send a patient to the hospital for a cesarean section before 39 weeks unless fetal distress is note or maternal distress is noted. Failer to comply with this policy will result is calculation of your insurance policy " And I am a registered nurse midwife OB's policies are even more strict. Everything about medicine is becoming more about financial concerns and less about patients.

@destinirivas10 my doctor said that he was legally allowed to do a c section if the baby reaches the 95th percentile and my baby's at the 98th. If I wait till exactly 39 weeks she'll weigh A little over 11 pounds.

How long did it take you ladies to recover to the point that you could walk easily on your own and everything? And do you think there's a way he'd do my c section sooner? We're gonna schedule a day at my next appointment

It's the law,
My doctor wants todo a c section for the same reason.  But I have to wait till 39weeks as well. My son will be 10 lbs by then.

The hospital will not let you be induced or c section till 39weeks unless you have complications then they will do it before

I ended up having a scheduled csection because my baby girl was breech so my dr did it at 38+6 because i was 3 cm dialted and having regular contractions when i went in for my app. Usually drs do csections at 39 weeks when its scheduled at least where im from they do. And as far as preparing for it the surgery isn't bad...recovery is the worst part, its painful! Make sure you have loose fitting comfy pants and panties that you can pull up high above your bikini line, you don't want them pushing on your incision

I'm glad yours went good! Everything on the internet is so negative so it's just good to hear someone didn't absolutely hate it

I had my son via c section at 38 weeks. He was fully developed and i dont see he wouldnt want to schedule a c section now. I had a good experience. I walked in the operating room myself, they put the anesthisia through my back like an epidural and was numbed in 2 seconds. My son was out in 10 mins.  You'll be fine.. good luck
