can someone help me get over my fear?

Needles. Every time they draw blood I freak out. One of the lab techs had to hold my hand and talk to me while they do it. I cry and completely freak out. I know i'm acting like a baby and i'm having a baby but I really can't help it. It's like I build it up in my mind and I can't stop thinking about how much it us going to hurt and then I freak out. Is there anyone who can help me? Advice please?

I hate needles but only when I'm getting stuck with them, I have no issue when it comes to giving my patients shots or drawing their blood or starting ivs. What helps me and some of my patients is to have something in your other hand and focus on that. For me it's coins and counting them. For others it maybe a stress ball or a stuffed animal. My hubby has the same issue and he chews gum and recites the alphabet backwards.

^^^what a good idea!!! I don't think I would have thought of that. I personally am not scared of needles my mom used to draw blood and practice on me all the time lol, my little brother on the other Hand is 19 years old 220 lbs of straight muscle and he turns into a lil girl when it comes to  needles it used to take like 4 nurses to hold him down lol

I was the same way until I had my first son,. I had a c section and really freaked. Well after I went through that I felt like I could do anything. I just think about the pain I went through while they are sticking the needle in and it doesn't seem so bad

I was affraid untill I started watching them.... if you know when to expect the pain..... it doesn't hurt. Its lke a pinch.... I also had to get over it.. cause when my first child was born they took lots of samples and test with needles......i feel. its better to teach my kids not to be afraid of what I was. Hope this helps ♥

I'm terrified of needles also, I didn't even get an epidural when I had my 2 older kids because of my fear of needles...but now I try not to watch them getting everything ready to draw blood. I pick a spot on the wall and stare at it until they are done. I also just talk to the lab tech about random things to take my mind off of it...its helped me a lot this pregnancy (I haven't cried yet!) Try to relax as much as possible because the more tense you are the more it hurts

I freak out at needles all the time, i have to have my boyfriend in the room with me when they take my blood yet i've had overall 22 piercings and a tattoo and i still can't deal with needles for blood taking or injections. Just try not to think about it and talk to whoever is in the room about a completely off topic to distract you and take deep breaths (:

I am exactly the same way! This is my third pregnancy and I had my first two babies all natural but show me a needle and I have a panic attack! Like a serious panic attack! I feel like I can't breath and like I'm going to pass out! Wish I could give you some advice but I can give you support and someone to talk to :)

I am like this I panic so badly, I have a 2 year old child and 5 tattoos and still hate needles, but I am 25weeks pregnant and I have not been bothered about the needles this time I freak of to start of with then think of the miracle im going to get out of it all, the more you freak the scared you get, so think of your baby instead of the needle, thats what I do :-)
