I've had one cold so far & refused to take meds. I consistently blew my nose never sniffled cuz that keeps you sicker longer. I took steamy showers, drank hot cocoa, gargled hot salt water (kills bacteria), & sniffed vics in bed until I was clear enough to fall asleep.

Pepermints help with the nose congestion take a hot shower shut all the doors in the bathroom shut the shower kerten and breath in the hot steam in through your nose hat also helps with headaches as well

I got the ok from my doc to do this when I had a cold. Take a bowl and put a small spoon full of some Vicks in the bottom, pour hot steamy water over it and fill the bowl almost halfway, stir til completely dissolved. Grab a towel and use or hands for support. Hover your face over the bowl and make sure the towel covers your entire head and the bowel and breathe in the steam til the water is no longer hot. Depending on how bad I feel I boil the water but don't put face too close. Hope it works.
