I try my hardest to stay away from that damn cat but he loves to lay on my belly. He isn't allowed in my room. The redness and swelling have gone down significantly. I find out the gender of my little one on Tuesday, so if its not better by then I will talk to them about it
If he drew blood you need to call your doc its very bad bacteria in their mouth
Literature says that 80% of cat bites become infected. The bacteria that lives in the mouth of a cat causes fast, aggressive infections. This paired with tiny cat teeth which puncture your skin ( depositing bacteria) can make for a nasty combo. Watch for signs of infection: increasing pain, redness around the bite that is growing, swelling. Go to the ER right away if these things happen. If it just heals like a normal wound, you're just fine. Just keep an eye on it and stay away from that cat!
It's not disease your worried about! It's bacteria! Everything has bacteria in its mouth. Human and cat bites are just worse than most. The vet can't prevent bacteria in the mouth. Bacteria can breed infection. I'm really surprised your dr would tel you that!!! Not trying to down your opinion either! Just trying to be informative!
I'd just like to be on the safe side is all. My eyes and lips will swell if he gets up in my face but that's it. I just didnt want to get an infection. I cant even ask my family to get rid of him because I would just feel absolutely awful about that, considering I moved back in after they got him.
@allocate im also a ftm. I asked bc i have a 5 month old kitten who somedays id love to kill... but could never shes also a sweetheart but she gets rough! And even when we clip her nails its like theyre back the next day. But my doctor told me as long as the vet says theyre good then theyre good. Im not downing anyone elses opinion thats just mine from my dr
Its right on my nail bed, but I will call my ob about it tomorrow
Shiniesshoes is actually right. They are quite over protective of cat bites and CDC recommendationa are to treat a bite of scratch (if akin is broken) with antibiotics. The fact that its a house cat and up on its shots does reduce risk of infection, but its just more protocol and being extra safe than anything
Cat bites can lead to nasty infections. Especially if bitten by a joint. It doesn't matter if their an indoor cat and has all its shots. I've been bitten by indoor cats 3 times and every time it has gotten infected. On top of that your pregnant and your immune system is lower than normal. Not trying to scare you but you don't mess around with cat bites. I would call your ob. They will probably want to give you antibiotics as a precaution. I actually watched an episode of the doctors the other day that said the same thing. Lol.
He is an inside cat and up to date on all of his shots, just got a little worried is all
Thank you to the both of you. Im a ftm so I was worried about my little one.
you should be fine, assuming he's either and inside cat or has had his rabies shots. if allergic and see puffiness where he bit you just take some Benadryl and it will go down. Im allergic to my cats and that's what I have to do when they scratch me.
As long as its not deep, put some rubbing alcohol and polysporn on it with a bandaid, it should be fine. I had really bad scratches also allergic if it turns red or blueish purple and lumps up which it would do right away its infected.
I think youll be fine momma :)
