is smoking while breast feeding bad? Like should I pump n dump or would it be best to just leave em completely until I stop breast feeding. I've been craving one soooo bad throughout my third trimester and now that I had my baby girl I'm wondering if one cigarette would be fine?

My mum is a heavy smoker, the docs advised her it increases the risk if SIDS dramatically. She needed to have a cigarette straight after feeding not right before, she needed to have a designated smokers jacket so her clothes weren't constantly coated in smoke. To wash hands, teeth & face throughly after each cigarette. I think if you can avoid it you are better off waiting till you are no longer breastfeeding. Cigarette is a major contributor to SIDS. I'm not trying to be nasty I said all the same things to my mother when she was pregnant/breastfeeding my little sister.

When you go out for a smoke, pull your hair back in a ponytail. Designate certain items of clothing to wear when you smoke. When you go back inside use mouthwash and throughly wash your hands and forearm.

Yes you can smoke as a breastfeeding mother, but the smoke smell on your clothes, in your hair and on your skin is still VERY dangerous gor your baby. They can smell that like 50x more than you can and since their lungs are still so fragile and growing its more likely your child will develop asthma and breathing complications from the 2nd hand smoke.
