You need the blood tests to see if your HCG is rising or dropping.
I just had a complete miscarriage and i agree you need to get your bloodwork drawn to see if your hcg are going down, but it sounds like you are in the process of having a miscarriage, I understand this is an emotinal time but it is very common among women in the first preganancy to have a miscarriage, and the best thing to tell yourself is that everything happens for a reason. i hope all is well in the future
Hello every1
Thank you for your replies, warm wishes and support. I have just come back from the ER and i'm sad to say it is a miscarriage, this time the sac was not present, but the doctor said that my uterus is thick and diagnosed me with an incomplete miscarriage (unlike the er doctor). i also have an appointment to go back in two weeks to make sure everything has come out and is ok. The doctor told me that when i previously came in on the monday the scan pictures showed abnormality with the gestational sac- the sac at 1 angle was round, but another angle was like a kidney shape. she said that the gestational sacs should look quite rounded, but doctors are not allowed to say anything to the mother at this stage as it can scare them and the fact that pregnancy can still continue, but in the later stages are found to have some birth defect problems, she said this stems from chromosone defects. i now feel so much better, because i think it's just my bodies natural way of telling me something was wrong.
Thanks again
Sam.xx
i had a "threatend miscarriage" had 9 weeks...with cramping and bleeding. I will be 21 weeks tomorrow. But with passing the clots /i'm not sure that is usually a big indicator that the miscarriage has happened. You won't be ab;e to "hear" a heartbeat at this point but they can usually see it at this point with an ultrasound. Sorry you are going through this
Like Lach said the only way that you'll know for sure is if you get your levels checked and they show to be going down instead of doubling. I have had bleeding in both pregnancies the first one ending in miscarriage and the second one continuing normally despite 5 weeks of bleeding, cramping, and clots. At 6-7 weeks they should be able to detect a heartbeat and should be able to estimate how old the baby is based on the size of the sac. I'm surprised that the hospital didn't keep the records to compare. Also a threatened miscarriage isn't a miscarriage diagnoses at all. Anytime you bleed in pregnancy they call it a "threatened" miscarriage.
First I am very sorry you are going through this emotional time - I have had a miscarriage that went on a bit l ike yours with a bit of uncertainty and it is very hard to deal with. I would say that 5 weeks is too early to see a heartbeat and that it is usually seen about 6 weeks but i am not sure if that is 6 weeks from last period or gestational age. I would say that it sounds like you have had a fair amount of bleeding and that a miscarriage may have occured or be in the process. I would go back on Monday or go to the docs and get a blood test because it is really the only way you can know if the pregnancy is continuing as the hcg levels will be doubling not just slightly going up or going down. I hope all turns out but remember many women on this forum have had miscarriages so there are alot of understanding and supportive people who can help you through this time if need be - good luck.
