If its not colic then the drops won't help. It could possibly be the formula.

Sometimes it could just be gas or colic. If he is really fussy like that Gerber makes something called Colic Drops which are helpful. Babies aren't born with all the good bacteria in their gut like we are and actually their entire digestive system is the last thing to mature and usually doesn't fully happen until a couple weeks after birth. The Colic drops are a probiotic to help put the good bacteria into the gut and relieve gas and fussiness associated with it.

Under 1 month of age they really should be going multiple times a day. Breast fed babies will go less but that's because breast milk doesn't produce as much waste. After 1 month of age its normal for babies to go a few days in between poops and breast fed babies can even go up to 6-7 days with no poop. Our practice doesn't recommend use of laxatives in babies until at least 2 months of age and even then we recommend  to try just either prune juice or glycerin suppositories first. I'd say if she's straining and its just farts try to switch formulas. They make ones that are sensitive for fussiness and gas. Also remember itll take baby about a week to adjust to a new formula so if there isn't a change after a couple days don't be alarmed.

I still would consult your baby's pediatrician about it, could be a formula aversion.... and yes some babies don't poop everyday, mine would go a couple days & I breastfed,  & they were not constipated & got plenty to eat.

Also as long as you get a poo at least once every three days it's typically okay. Unless he seems really upset and uncomfortable I wouldn't worry too much.

It's not considered constipation unless it's Lil clay like pebbles of stool. Sometimes it could be the formula. What color is the stool?

Kate32324 I am a PEDs nurse and deal with this on a daily basis. Under one month of age constipation is uncommon. Does it happen, yes but not very often. At this point baby needs to be eating enough to produce waste and not eating for days is an exaggeration. Even a few ounces shy per day of what baby needs at this point could cause a decrease in stool. That's why i told her to see a Dr before giving anything. Mineral oil and laxitives should never be given in a baby that age. Also its important to be examined for other possible complications that could be causing lack of stool.

That is a bit early for constipation. I breastfed and my son usually had poo in almost every diaper. Try gently rubbing her tummy in a clockwise motion. It should help any trapped gas or poo work it's way through the intestines. I wouldn't give anything to her without consulting her pediatrician.

I agree with baby_love2014 massage tummy and push knees towards tummy and out again this helps with gassy baby too. Knufrio is wrong no poop don't mean baby isn't getting enough food. Unless the baby ate absolutely nothing for days there should still be poop. So constipation it is

I would strongly recommend consulting your Dr before giving baby anything to help with constipation, especially because in a baby that young constipation is not very common.

If its really constipation my family usually gives a little bit of mineral oil to babies and makes them go and its safe recommended by our family doctor

If you're formula feeding, it could be the formula.
Massage his stomach.
bring his legs into his stomach and back out...repeat a few times.  Should help move things along.

Usually under a few weeks old no poop doesn't mean constipation. Its usually a sign baby isn't getting enough.
