When i had my daughter two weeks ago i had back labour and back contractions which was the worst pain EVER!! Ive always suffered with back pain when having periods etc.. So i kind of knew in my heart that i was going to have back labour. I am a first time mom and you just know the difference between cramps and contractions. Keep a time log of how far apart they are and when they get down to 2-3mins apart then take urself to ur labour ward x

I was wondering the samething. Until i got one. They start in your back sometime and then its a really bad tighting feeking in your abdomen(most lower) and vagina. They really hurt. Trust me you will know once they start.

How far along are you? I literally just got home from my doctor and they had to stop my contractions. For me it started out in my lower abdomen on only the left side. They were so strong I couldn't move or breathe through them and it left me with tears in my eyes after each one. Those went away and about an hour later i started feeling a cramping that I can only explain as feeling almost like diarrhea cramps, in my whole belly.. It quickly started wrapping around into my back and my spine. My stomach only tightened with maybe two of the contractions.. So stomach tightening is not a for sure sign. They're very painful, uncomfortable, and don't go away no matter how much you move/adjust positions.

Contractions feel like really bad muscle spazams in the belly, sometimes in the back, they really suck, you can feel the tightening in both your belly and your lower pelvic regions. If they come every 2 mins and last for 45 - 60 seconds you should go to your l&d unit.
