Concerned

Hello, my question is that I am confused on how many weeks I am pregnant.  My LMP was 12/14/09.  My 20 week ultrasound said that I am 21 weeks and the baby is in the 90th percentile.  My uterus was measuring 26-27 weeks.  I went to the dr today and she said that I am 24 weeks, but I am measuring at 30 weeks.  I am very confused and want to know why are these numbers not matching?

If your LMP is correct, you are 24 weeks, definately. There are many reasons why you could be measuring bigger. Have you been checked for gestational diabetes yet? That is one thing that makes the baby big - I have it, and I'm 31 weeks. Baby is measuring 34 weeks, even though my diabetes is well-controlled. With my son, I measured several weeks big right about the time you are at...but by the end of the pregnancy he was closer to normal. Still a big baby, but not overly large. If your MD isn't too concerned, I wouldn't worry. And, like I said, if you are sure about your LMP date, then your due date hasn't changed. You just have a big baby!

You should go by your very first ultrasound you had, the earliest ultrasound you've had in your pregnancy, and whatever that told you is most accurate. Most doctors order ultrasounds to be done in early pregnancy because it best predicts your due date/how far along you are. You haven't had your glucose test yet, but gestational diabetes can lead to a larger baby, so you could have GD, and just have a large baby. OR you could simply have a large baby on your hands! I would say since your doctor said you are 24 weeks, then you are, just because you're measuring big doesn't mean you're farther along, it just means you're having a big baby, or you have more amniotic fluid than normal. They may decide to change your due date if your baby gets TOO big, though. Good luck!
