cutting the babys nails

So sometimes when I read a "what to pack for the diaper/hospital bag" questions I see some of you mommies say to bring nail clippers, do you cut the babies nails when theyre just born? Or when do you start to cut them lol

I would just put mittens on for a few days. Or my favorite was the outfit and onesies with built in mittens.

I've seen a lot of drs actually recommend filing babies nails. It does the same thing, but babies are wiggly and I've seen lots of slip ups with the nail clippers

They don't wear them for long before they outgrow them or work out how to get them off. I think my son outgrew them by about 4wks, long before they start to develop fine motor skills.

My sons nails just used to break off by themselves. I put mittens on him so he couldn't scratch himself and started using nail clippers when he was about 2mths old. None of my friends used them on their babies, they told me to just bite them off :-s

You can cut them right after they are born or put mittens on them.. I was very shocked with my first of how long there nails are when they are born. This time around I have made sure to have nail clippers in the bag.
