feel stupid for asking but

About an hr ago my dull low achey contractions seemed to stop and suddenly I have really intense cramping in my abdomen that sometimes goes down my back or into my pelvis. Its still crampy and really doesnt ease up, but it goes into moments of intensity that seem unbearable (like the worst gassy pains you could imagine) and it lasts up to a minute and half at a time before easing back into just the less painful cramp. Are these contractions? I know theres different kinds, but I dont really feel them low unless it radiates there.
