Stopped labor

My contractions were 4 mins apart after 10 hrs of having them, went into l&d and they were at 4 mins for another hour. I was only at 50% and dialted between 3-4. My doc was out if town and the on call doc said to stop my labor. I got a shot in the back of the arm and the contractions slowly faded away, and my cervix went back. Now I'm having contractions again in my back  anyone ever go through this???

I cannot believe that doctor stopped your labor.  I mean I cannot believe they did that!  But I also don't know how far along you are either.  If you are full term and that doctor did that, I'd be pretty ticked.  And I can't believe they gave you something that you are allergic to!!  Geez, remind me not to go to that hospital!!

As far as what the baby is experiencing....possibly nothing.  I took something that I unknowingly was allergic to when I was pregnant once and my baby was fine.  BUT I can't be sure in your case.

I agree w/ Clysta...I would call another hospital and find a way over there.  Call your husband and tell him to come home and that the baby is possibly coming now.  She's right about the drug too.  I was given 3 shots of it with my last baby because I began pre-term labor.  But again, this is to stop PRE TERM labor, and not FULL term.

Best of luck and I am so sorry you are going through this!

It's used as an off label medicine to stop labour quite frequently, but mainly in women with pre-term labour. I would call and see what is suggested by another hospital. If they tell you to come in, then I'm sure you'll be able to find someway up there, and if you're not feeling much movement it would be wise to be seen. Especially if it's not normal. I'm not sure what happens to the baby when the mother has an allergic reaction during pregnancy.

I got more information....The shot they gave me was 'terbutaline' and Im allergic. I spent all day in the emergency room when I woke up with my face 3 times normal size...They KNEW i was allergic...It was written on my allergy band clear as day...So If I am having an allergic reaction, what is my baby going through??? I have had very little movement from her today, probably 5 kicks all day. I spent the day in the emergency room getting IV fluid and 50 mg of benadryl....and was sent home. Now my face is swelling back up and my lower back pain is starting again. The shot they gave me, has no information about being used to stop contractions. It is for asthma and breathing issues. Im really confused on why they injected me with that, and what could be going on with my baby now????

I am so very unhappy, and am in misery because of the pain and swelling. Anybody been through this one??!?!   What should I do?! I plan on going to a different hospital for better care, but Im at home with my toddler and my husband is at work with our only vehicle. Im just very worried and upset...

With my 2nd son, I was having contractions all day 8 minutes apart then they went to 6 then to 5.  I was dialated to a 5 and then my contractions just spaced back out to around every 20-25 minutes then they disappeared.  I stayed dialated to a 5 for about 5 days and after I pitched a fit they finally induced me.  I have never heard them stop labor on purpose like they did with you.  Good luck
