first period after baby

i had my baby 3 weeks ago and im already on my period...i know its my period because i stopped bleeding a few days ago and then yesterday started having period cramps and started bleeding again.. i can definitely tell its my period because of the cramps.
anywhoo is it normal for the first one to be SO heavy? i was leaking out of my tampon after 2 hours..this is my heaviest period yet. just curious if its supposed to be like this?

I usually get my first peiod after baby not long after I stop bleeding from the birth, it su cks! and yes usually the first period after baby is very heavy!! it should get lighter in a few cycles. and like nickieb said Dr's usually recommend that you use tampons until at least your 6 weeks check up, to reduce your risk of infection! Good luck and hope you start feeling better soon!

I always have extremely heavy periods after my babies were born. I am pretty sure that most doctors don't recommend using tampons until after your 6 week check up (I totally understand because it would be way to easy to bleed through one) and for chance of infection. My periods were extremely heavy 3 months after having babies and then they started to get lighter, shorter and less painful! Hope you feel better soon!
