When should I get my 1st u/s?

I'm thinking that I'm going to wait until at least the 6th week. Cause I saw lots of posts about women who got u/s at 5weeks and were all worried cause they didnt see anything because its too early to see anything. I dont want to go in right now and then worry even though my brain would know its ok I would still be worried. So when do you guys think I should schedule my first u/s? :)

Really? I didn't know that. But at 8weeks does the baby actually look like a baby? Would we be able to see the baby clearly at 8weeks? Thanks for info :)

The baby doesnt show much movement at all at 8 weeks. with my first child i got u/s around 15 weeks and she moved around alot. your trimester ends when ur 3 months

Does the first trimester end at 8weeks? How come your doctor won't give you an u/s until 20weeks? I wonder why your doctor isn't concerned about your weight or eating. So do you think that by 8weeks I'd be able to see the baby moving and stuff?

Do you know how much each u/s would cost like a guesstimate? Cause I would definitely be willing to pay more if it means I can see our baby more often :) Yeah I guess we are spoiled but I'm ok with that :) lol. I'm so sorry about your mom's loss and that must've been horrible. Her doctor wouldn't even let her look??

I cant get my first u/S UNTIL im 20 wks. Im 10 wwks today and i have lost 9 lbs yet my dr dont think me going more than 24 hrs without food is bad. I say get ur u/s after ur done with ur first trimester its better to see them more active

Oh yea, if you have the cash and are willing to pay it most offices will lol.  It's all about the money sadly :-P.  You have to remember though just 20 years ago they didn't do ultrasounds at all unless something bad was going on, so we're really spoiled honestly.  Heck my mom is an RN and hadn't seen an ultrasound of a baby until I brought her to my appointment at my specialist.  She had a still birth in 1983 and thats the only time she ever got an ultrasound.  And she wasnt allowed to even look.

Yeah they do :P So do you think that if we payed extra out of our pocket to have more u/s done than 3 would they let us? Cause it sounds like its the insurance company who only allows three u/s. Yeah I don't want to be scared if I go in early but then again waiting til your farther along is scary too cause you don't see the baby until later. Theres too much waiting lol. Congratulations on your pregnancy and I bet your ready to see your baby now huh? :)

Doctors make you wait so long. (this applies mainly to three US) because almost all insurances allow for "X" amount if u/s during a pregnancy unless there is a medical necessity for more.  Plus if they wait until you are an estimated 8+ weeks it cuts out the giant scare that happens when you go in around 5ish weeks and theres just a sac (happened twice to me lol I thought I was 6 weeks and I was only like 4ish have a two year old and am thirty weeks along now).
So it ***** but there there is a legit reason.

Why is it that doctors make us wait so long? Don't they know how stressful it is to wait?? lol. How was it going to the first u/s? And how did you deal with the wait?

Wow 13weeks? How have you managed to wait that long??? But I bet once you have the u/s you'll be able to see the baby for sure and hear the heartbeat :) I don't know when you can tell the sex but that'd be cool if you found out everything at once :) I totally agree about the wait. Its almost as if doctors enjoy watching us worry lol.

I know me too. I mean sometimes I'll feel the pinching in my abdomen but then it will go away. I feel like the only way to know if the baby is ok is to do an ultrasound. Which I shouldn't do until I know we'll be able to see the baby. But like you said the wait is really nerve racking. And I'm having to tell myself the same thing as long as I'm not bleeding or experiencing extreme pain then I'm ok and so is our baby. Congratulations on your baby :)

my dr wouldn't even think about letting me get one done until he thought we were 8 almost 9 wks but that was through a fertility clinic.  Most of my friends have neve had one before 12 wks.

I found out i was pregnant when i was 4 weeks and go for my first u/s in 6days. i will be 13weeks by then. the wait is terrible! i just wanna know if our baby is alright :-( x

I nearly went nuts and you cant feel it you cant tell you re PG! It's very  nerve racking I just had to keep telling myself if im not bleeding or spotting im ok im ok!  n yup at 10 wks i saw everything they zoomed the camera in and there was this perfect lil baby on the screen and i asked immediatly where his heart was and there was a tiny flicker (his BPM was 169) and he was kicking and moving! after 10 yrs of TTC and thinking I was sterile that moment was amazing!!

Wow. How did you deal with the wait? So you saw your baby's heart beat at 10weeks? I'm glad that everything is ok with you and your baby :) I hope me and my baby are alright too :) Yeah I really can't wait to hear our baby's heartbeat :)

No I haven't made a doctors appointment yet. But I'm going too :) Although I have been to a clinic and they confirmed my pregnancy (didn't check hcg levels though) but they did take my weight and iron levels which are good :)

My first appt was at 10 wks!! and i found at 5 wks so waiting 5 wks and not knowing what was going on was LONG and hard! when i saw my baby s HB for the first time it was the biggest sigh of relief ever!!

I ve had more than 3 ultrasounds but I had surgery on my cervix they ve had to make sure it doesnt thin or shorten! I didnt need the circlage after all but gettn to see the baby so much has been nice! they chk me down there and then get his HB!

Oh wow. How do you guys stand the wait?? I'm sorry to hear that you guys only get two u.s. It really doesnt make sense to me how doctors say only a few are necessary. In a mother's mind I dont think it matters I think we just want to see the baby that is growing inside of us for nine months more than 2-3 times lol. I hear some women get u.s. ever two weeks. I hope I do too but not because I have a high risk pregnancy but so I cab see how our little bean is doing in there :)

I'll make sure to do that :) But I just don't know how I'm going to wait 3 whole weeks lol. I really want to know that our baby is ok. I'm sure it is but I just want to see our baby to put my mind at ease you know?

I wish that doctors would do them more often. I don't think they understand that seeing our babies just 2-3 times in a period of nine months just isn't enough for us! lol. I hope that I get a doctor who will allow me to see my baby more often than that. :)

Yeah unless when I call my doctor and they want me to come in sooner I think thats what I'm going to do. How did you guys endure the wait though?

Yeah exactly. Its just no fun waiting for so long :( Cause during those 3weeks of waiting your all worried about if the baby is ok. At least thats how I feel. I dont think that I'll feel completely reassured until I see our baby for the first time. Which I hope I do and that our baby is alright. :)

Have you made a doc apt? I'm 6 weeks now and I called last week and the sat me for april 10th it was like 4 week away. When I go to my first doc I will be about 9 weeks. So I think they will let you know.
