first pregnancy

I'm 19 turning 20 this yr and im pregnant for the first  time. I've never had a miscarriage or any real pregnancy scares. My period was for the most part regular. I used to get horrible cramps and i mean horrible. Last year my cramps just disappeared but in December and January those horrible cramps returned. A couple weeks ago I didnt get my period and I immediately tested a positive home pregnancy test. I haven't had a chance to see a Dr. so I read forums and my app that I have. I'm terrified of all this miscarriage talk. I feel fine mostly and I have been experiencing typical symptoms including mild cramping when i make a sudden movement or just randomly. There hasn't been any bleeding however. I have experienced quite a bit a discharge. I feel like my pregnancy is progressing fine, but are there ways to prevent a miscarriage or detect one?

Everyone fears a miscarriage or problems with the pregnancy. It is completely natural to worry but the chances are that everything will be fine.

I'm 21 and have had three miscarriages before this pregnancy. I have a hard time carrying fetus' because of my uterus.  They couldn't properly attach because the lining was so thick.  But god has blessed me with this twin pregnancy. I am 28+3 and none of my other pregnancies went past 12 weeks. You should be perfectly fine and not worry about a mc. As long as no sever cramping with bleeding is going on. Congrats and best of luck :)

Im 20 about to be 21 and unfortantely i just had a miscarriage. I was so worried about it too but doctor said that you cant prevent it at all. The only time you should be worried is if you start bleeding thats how i knew and bad cramping. I hope you have a healthy pregnancy and dont worry too much!!

I'm 20 & 20 weeks pregnant with my first and was not to long ago thinking like you. Other than close family I didn't tell anyone I was pregnant until I reached 16 weeks just to be on the safe side. Worrying is all part of the process I guess lol. When you have your scans your mind will be put at ease because you get to see just how safe,  happy and healthy your baby is. Congratulations on your pregnancy and I wish you a healthy journey into motherhood :-D

Thank you all. It helps to voice my worry and see that im not over-reacting. I read that miscarriages were caused by chromosomal abnormalities and it helps that you posted it Lanny_Licorice.

You can't prevent a miscarriage since It's a spontaneous loss of a fetus and It's caused by chromosomal abnormalities In the baby. You can however prevent a miscarriage by other means like not smokin' or using drugs during pregnancy and most other common sense situations on not what to do while pregnant. To detect a possible miscarriage, some symptoms are: Bleeding which progresses from light to heavy(like your on your period), severe cramps, abdominal pain, and tissue or clot-like material that passes from the vagina. But everythin' you said Is completely normal so you shouldn't worry so much. =-] I know I was constantly worrying until I was able to feel my baby move often, It's natural. But try not to stress about It.

There is nothing you can do to stop a miscarriage happening as they usually happen because of a severe birth defect or problem which would prevent it being a healthy pregnancy. Signs of one are severe cramping and/or bleeding.

I have never miscarried and I am in my first pregnancy, but I wouldnt stress out about it. I don't think there is anything that can be done to avoid a miscarriage. But don't worry, just see your Dr as soon as you can. And Congrats!!
