My cat is long haired and cleans her own feet. My husband takes care of the litter but I raised 9 siblings from infancy and am now pregnant with my first. I've never had a problem. My cat shares my pillow and everything. It not the litter that will harm you but something that's found in cat urine and poop. Same is true for pet rodents like hamsters, rats, guinea pigs, etc... just don't handle their waste.
Ok docs and websites will always tell you the cautious answer, which is no deli meats bc of the risk of bacteria. Personally I've ignored that and ever had any problems. Everything within reason of course, but a few slices in a sandwich or salad for lunch never did me wrong.
My doc tells me it's ok to eat deli meat as long as I heat it up in the microwave or cook it on tge stove really well first. Well-done meat only. Not a myth (both my doc husband and my hospital doc confirmed this and said it could really affect pregnancy).
Personally, I don't risk it with cats since they step in their own cat litter-- but that's just me since I dont like them. According to my doc IF we had a cat I would need to wear socks around the house (for indoor cats) and avoid their litter.
that is also not a myth-- a dear friend miscarried due to toxoplasmosis.
