first trimester

Are you suppose to have a lot of pain in your first trimester?  And how many pounds are you not suppose to lift?

When do you usually start maternity leave?  I can't afford to be off at all and afraid they might put me on bed rest when I go to the doctor Thursday

Yeah, it's pretty awful. I'm single too, so it's not like I can go without an income for three months. Luckily I never take days off so I have like 6 weeks of sick days accumulated, and then since I teach, I'm off during the summer when the baby is born, or I'd be in serious trouble. Still not happy about it, just upset that it works like that.

In the U.S. typically it's not paid. From what I was told, you use up your sick/vacation days (which is paid, according to however your workplace does it), and then you have 3 months under the Family Medical Leave Act of unpaid medical leave. The only way you'd get a paycheck during maternity leave is if you have short-term disability insurance (which of course I don't). This is one time I really wish I was in Canada.

Sounds like ligament pain which is normal. If you're experiencing extreme pain get checked out. My obgyn told me as our bellies grow our center of gravity changes. She didn't give me a specific # of lbs. Just make sure you bend @ the knees & take it easy.
