for the ladies who have used mirena

I saw someone else posted a question about birth control after having their baby.  I have been thinking about it too.  Had anyone used an iud, like Mirena?  I am interested in it, but several of my friends have had reactions such as painful intercourse and excess bleeding.  What are your experiences with an iud?

had the mirena put in after my last pregnancy, only cramped for a few days and never had a period again, that was the only good part about it. After 18 months of having it in, i gained 26 lbs. and it also caused a painful lump in my left breast, plus hair loss. After 2 years i had to get it taken out, couldnt handle the pain or the weight gain. keep in mind everyone is different and you may not experience any side effects. I have 2 cousins with it now and both have had it for 3 years with no complaints. After the mirena i changed to the nuva ring which i loved (except for thr fact is was close to $100 a month).. pregnant with #4 now which was planned and after delivery my husband will be getting fixed.. im tired of going through all the changes of bc and carryimg babies, its his turn for a lil discomfort.. ha! sorry so long.. good luck!

My sister in laws and my sister all have it/had it. One of my two sister in laws did end up having a tubal pregnancy from it. It was very scary. My other sister  in Law and sister haven't had any problems with it.

I also have the paraguard I love it no pain during sex hubby doesnt feel it either. I bled for two days after it was put in just a little cramp. Try it out u dont like it u can always have it taken out I know there is one that can be inserted in arm a friend has that she likes it I love the fact that the paraguard is hormone free

I have the non hormonal copper iud (paragard). I've only had it for two weeks but I stopped cramping an hour after it was inserted, sex wasnt painful, and I've not had any side effects other than irregular bleeding. But that could still be post partum bleeding or bleeding from the iud. Supposedly it goes away after three months.

I have done research on it.  And I understand the risks and benefits.  You have the good and bad with any type of medication especially something with hormones such as birth control. I would like to hear other people's opinions and experiences.

Mirena has many problems. I know 1 person who got pregnant with it and 2 others who have had it get lost inside them and caused problems

Make sure other options are definitely not what you want, and research Mirena well before deciding on it. I don't want to influence you with my personal story, just make sure you REALLY research it before you get it.

I had it after my son, who is now 4 ½ yrs old. I got it beginning of november 2008 and I hated it!! There is cramping when u get it, mine never stopped. I cramped for about a month... it got worse over time. By the end of that month I was in so much pain I felt like I was in labor all over again. My periods were extremely heavy. I went to the doctors and it was hanging half way out!!! Had it removed and never got it again!! Hopefully of u do choose to get it u have better luck!!
