1. Do you have to lose your mucus plug in order to dialate?

1) No. Sometimes women dialate and don't notice their mucus plug or it comes out very slowly as pregnancy progresses. Some women lose it while in active labor. 2) Yes. Your water can break at anytime in your pregnancy.
