I had it too, just watch your carb intake. I found I could eat as much meat and protein as I liked, with a salad or vegies(no potatoes) and the sugars were fine. Id even make an omelet for a snack if I was really hungry and snack on diet yogurts for my sweet tooth. If I ate something naughty like some hot chips or a burger, I'd go for a half hour walk to keep the sugar levels down. You will soon work out what works for you and your body.

Yep as soon as you deliver! I remember with my last pregnancy making my husband go to the gift shop to buy me some candy cause the doctor said I didn't have to worry about my sugar anymore! Lol

I have GD too.  I went to my diabetes education class today and immediately went grocery shopping :). They told me to eat three meals and three snacks a day.  I have to count my carbs.  My doctor said that most people's blood sugar is back to normal within 2 hours of delivering.  It is caused by a hormone that is produced in the placenta.  So when you deliver and get rid of the placenta, your glucose levels should normalize.

No there there just tiny needles and my fingers don't get sore. I just try to keep myself busy...You have to eat your meal and then wait 2hours to test. When Im at work I have no problem but when Im home I'm literally counting down the minutes! Lol Im 31 weeks now so only been on the "diet" for a couple of weeks now, it gets easier. they will explain everything to you. And no I will probably have only one sonogram around 35-36 weeks to see how big he is. Most doctor's will not let you go past your due date with gestational diabetes, my doctor likes to induce a week early.

I just did my glucose test today. So I'm not sure if I have it or not. While pregnant with my daughter in 2011 I failed the 1hr but passes the 3hr. With the doctor I see no she only does a 2hr screening and it's pass or fail.

Oh lovely 4 times a day!!! Aren't your fingers sore? How much longer do you have left with it? How do you deal with not eating? I'm always starving and my biggest problem is going to be sweets I usually hate sweets but this pregnancy that's all I crave !!! :-/ do you have to see a high risk doctor once a month for sonograms?

I have to test my blood sugar 4 times a day..I had it with my previous pregnancy too. It takes a week or so to get in the groove of not snacking inbetween sugar testings. Just remember to drink alot of water (it flushes the sugars out) and also to exercise (it also helps regulate your blood sugar) So if I have time... I will eat my dinner and then go out for like a 20 min walk or longer if I can and my blood sugar is always good when I have to test it.

Ladybug thanks for assuring me things could be OK! I just found out this morning I failed my 3 hr an I'm really upset by it ..I just dont want it to affect her or I an her become a very large baby at birth I'm not due till June 22 so its really upsetting ! Lilducky good luck! I hear its pretty common for people to fail the one hour an pass the 3 hr! I was one of the 8% who got preeclampsia with my previous pregnancy !

I have it. The only way its changed my pregnancy is having to watch what I eat and no snacking in between meals. My baby is healthy and right on track.
