Castor oil???

okay so I've heard soooo many mixed things about castor oil and weather it is or isn't safe. Some people said that their midwifes or obs actually suggested it or said that they were a "good candidate" to try it. But others have said their obs swore against it that it would make baby poop in the whims and become very sick if they breath it in, and others say it doesn't work just gives you severe diahreha and that even if it does work you would be in labor with severe diahreha. Which is it??? Or what would make you a good candidate to try it? Anyone have any success or horror stories on it?

I tried castor oil like four different times with my last daughter. It didn't work other than to make me vomit violently. My daughter was born a week late.

Unpredictable* I tried using prune juice as an alternative since its is a more natural laxative and would do the same thing., but as I wasnt dilated enough all it did was make me pretty sick throughout the night.

all the things you have heard are true, which means it is n unoredoctable and risky way to insuce labour. It *will* only work on women who are dilated enough, as women who are not readu will just get very sick. To me, I was curious as well but  I couldn't stand it if anything happened to my baby because I was being Impatient. If you are considering this method, let your doctor or midwife know first so that they can support you. Get gatorade, and be prepared for alot of bathroom time.

I used it with my first and it worked for me, I did however have really bad diarrhea before I actually started having contractions so if you do try it you have to make sure you stay hydrated

I'm already 3cm dilated and have been having contractions on and off and sharp pains for the past 3 days (I'm 39 weeks) someone told me to try castor oil but all the negative stories make me so nervous

I tried it with my first son and it didn't work for me. My ob said the only times it works is if ur already dilated because it irritates the uterus progressing labor. However it's awful tasting and does give u major diarrhea. I wouldn't take it again unless I go over my due date and don't want to be induced. On another note both my sisters took it and worked great. I think it just depends on the circumstances.

It just depends on your body and how it may react to it i think, i don't think you may or may not be a good candidate for it. Something I wouldn't do though.
