I am a gbs carrier. I have it all the time. All three of my pregnancies I have it and they do iv antibiotics. All my babies came out fine with no problems.
I haven't got the results of my test yet but from the way it was explained to me was you'll probably want to go to the hospital a little earlier than you would if you didn't test positive to make sure you get the antibiotics in time for everything to go smoothly but that as long as you talk to your doctor and do everything appropriately you should be fine
its around ~25% or more moms are carriers and of those who dont get antibiotics during delivery its like 1/200 babies that are affected so its really not a big concern(cause most are treated for it) you get tested as a precaution and are treated as a precaution.... by no means is your baby doomed... it prevents that .5% chance cause its such an easy treatment they would silly not to give antibiotics...
Lol, if you read ashleigh's reply again you'll see she tested negative her second and third pregnancy, after having it her first.
So yep, it can :-)
I was panicking cause it said stillborn. Newborn.death. Pneumonia. Etc!! Does it go away after birth? Im still worried.
Its something that a lot of women carry and dont even know. The virus only breaks out randomly. With my first baby in 2005 i tested positive and had i.v. penicillin and my baby was perfect. My 2nd pregnancy i was negative and now with my 3rd i tested negative. Its better that u know. Your baby will be totally fine.
From what I have heard it gets passed to baby during birth. So if you are on antibiotics during labor not only you will get those but baby too. So baby will get the necessary protection before he encounters the problem. And the antibiotics will weaken it before baby hits it.
You shouldn't have to worry about it much. :) even if baby arrived before you got the iv they would give him antibiotics which would kill it. It's only dangerous if left untreated I believe.
If you're still worried talk to your doctor about it. They will put your mind at ease.
Lots of women test positive for it. All those horror stories are of when it goes untreated. As long as you get I.v. Antibiotics while in labor you and baby will be fine.
