Group B streptococcus (GBS) is a type of bacterial infection that can be found in a pregnant woman’s vagina or rectum. It is not sexually transmitted. It's normally found in the vagina and/or rectum of about 25 % of all healthy, adult women. Those women who test positive for GBS are said to be colonized. A mother can pass GBS to her baby during delivery. So they check to make sure you don't have it but if you do they'll know and be prepared so the baby won't contact it during delivery if the baby was to open their eyes or mouth anything.
If they only swab the vagina they are only testing one of the two areas that the bacteria could possibly be. I've heard of them letting you do it on your own but my doctor did it for me
Still dont know what that is :/ sorry
@baby_zander090114 they let you do it yourself????
What is GBS+ if yall dont mind me asking?
When I got mine done last week, I got to do it myself!
I'm on baby 3 and they swab your vajayjay and butt.
But it might be different in other places.
I give a urine sample every time I go so if I had it they would've been known? Can it develop at any stage during pregnancy?
They were able to tell I had it from a urine sample. That was tested at week 9 and then confirmed at week 34.
Btw thank you carliejamelle
I'm pretty sure where I'm from they only swab your vagina. It only takes a few seconds
When do they start checking the cervix?
They will take a swab of your vagina and anus. They will then send it away for testing to determine if your a GBS + or not.
