hCG numbers question!!

So, I had my first dr's apt yesterday, after having an ultrasound it looked like I wasn't quite the 6 weeks yet, so I think I was 5 weeks 5 days (due to one of the possible ovulation dates, I had ovulation cramps twice).  I just got the call about the numbers and I was hoping someone can shed some light.  The number was 10,486.  Looking online I see there's a wide range for each week, and that seems to fall into the 6 week mark, but I don't think I was 6 weeks from the look of the ultrasound.  It seemed I was the 5 weeks 5 days, (which 10,486 seemed to be too high).

We saw a flutter on the screen, my midwife thinks it could have been the heartbeat but was having a hard time getting a clear view, so she couldn't date it, but it sounded like I was not quite 6 weeks yet.  My little bean is still very small.

So, I guess my question is what does it mean to have 10,486 for 5 weeks and 5 days?  Is there something you can refer me to so I can understand the numbers better?

Thanks, in 3 weeks will have a better scan to know how far along I really am, but I at least know I'm around the 6 week mark.  I guess I'm just trying to find something wrong even though everything is going great!

I agree numbers are not that important, they are high.some women just produce higher hcg than other.at almost 6 weeks flickering of the heart is all you will see.
the sonographer would have seen if 2 sacs were present,if you concieved twins would have been same time, not on 2 separate occasions.chances are may have been implantation you were feeling.of course everything will freak you out.ive had multi mc,and even now at 37 weeks i worry.your numbers are high, which is a great sign, your only a day or 2 of 6 weeks.scans are always off by couple days or so.so this would put your hcg in right time frame.

3 weeks LMP: 5 - 50 mIU/ml
4 weeks LMP: 5 - 426 mIU/ml
5 weeks LMP: 18 - 7,340 mIU/ml
6 weeks LMP: 1,080 - 56,500 mIU/ml
7 - 8 weeks LMP: 7, 650 - 229,000 mIU/ml
9 - 12 weeks LMP: 25,700 - 288,000 mIU/ml
13 - 16 weeks LMP: 13,300 - 254,000 mIU/ml
17 - 24 weeks LMP: 4,060 - 165,400 mIU/ml
25 - 40 weeks LMP: 3,640 - 117,000 mIU/ml

Thanks.  I recently had a miscarriage so everything is freaking me out at the moment.  But the ultrasound and numbers have defiantly made me feel much better!  I felt ovulation cramps twice so I've been freaked out about twins, but after the ultrasound and numbers I'm think it's not the case (at least hoping).  My next ultrasound will be about 9 weeks so we'll know more then.

Number don't really mean anything really! I know they have guidelines but mine were always high also. What they really need to look for a healthy baby is that they double every 48 hours or so. Mine tripled three times in 24 hours and I wawas only having one baby. I do know that sometimes they can't see a twin till even up to week 9-10 and that can be a sign of higher numbers that double faster. But it is the doubling faster and usually exagerated sivkness and then confirmation by us for that. Number vary so much with each woman and pregnancy I would not read to much into them, but you can know that your baby is alvie and doing well from that number! Congrats!!
