has anyone been precribed xanax while pregnant.

Im 18 weeks pregnant. I've been prescribed Xanax 1 mg a day for anxiety im against taking medication while pregnant so I refused to take it. Because prior to becoming prego I was on 4 mg a day the doc strongly suggested that I continue the lower dosages based on the severity of my anxiety. Im not so sure I want to take the meds but im a ticking time bomb so bad to the point I've been hospitalized for anxiety and placed on social security. No negative comments I just want to know had anyone taken Xanax and baby born ok?

I was on Xanax prior and still am on Xanax now and I am 12 weeks pregnant. However I did not take it daily, it was more of an as needed medication for my anxiety attacks. I spoke with my midwife, and she stated that by all means if I need it to take it, however dont over do it. since the brain is developing still. Now like i said before I dont know how it would mean taking it daily. But I think your drs. right when saying it could be more stressful for the baby if stopping it completely. (Withdrawls are harmful) Xanax is a Group C drug, which means that while taking it, if you become very dependent on it, your child could be born being dependent on it as well. However there has been no studies showing your child will endure defects, or developmental issues while taking it. "Example: Heavy Smokers that have a hard time quiting, are commonly told to not quit but cut down the amount they smoke, because of the stress on the baby, could cause miscarriage, etc. Its the same thing for you. Your medications is something that helps you, where as Nicotine is something that a smoker has a hard time removing from their lifes. You both are just lowering the "dosage" Hope this helps.

My psychiatrist told me the stress was worse for the baby than Xanax at a low dosage. My Ob told me that was one of the worse medications to be on however the chances were very slim to none as far a birth defects goes worse case would be a cleft lip if taken in high dosages 4 mg or higher in the first trimester or in the 3 because baby can be born addicted. I know I wouldn't give my new born baby Xanax so why would I give my unborn Xanax needless to say im really stressing out. I dont want to hurt baby or myself was it easy for you to stop Xanax?

I was on 3mg of xanax a day before getting pregnant and my doctor would not even consider keeping me on it...after comin into my 3rd trimester they offered me Prozac and I declined. I dont know the effects it has on pregnancy but i wouldn't risk it
