well where im from they do blood tests to check iron levels and if there low women take iron tablets not folic acid because if someone has anemia the iron in folic acid wont make much of a differance... we are only told to take them for the first 12 week of pregnancy and then to carry on taking them if the mother breastfeeds so to be honest a doctor wouldnt tell you to stop taking them after 12 week if it can do any harm.
but obviously everywhere is differant wich is why there is a veriety of advice on medhelp!

Actually it can, but mostly to the female and not the child. While pregnant the amount of extra blood in your body increases, so your need for Iron also rises. Most do not consume enough in their meals, and lack the proper amount needed. As a result, anemia occurs and anyone that has had it knows how fun it is to have that as well as be pregnant.

it wont do any harm if you stop taking it but its allways best if you carry on through the pregnancy.

You should take your vitamins until the baby is born, unless your doctor tells you otherwise.

Continue.  Folic acid is in prenatals as well...you take your prenatals throughout the pregnancy and even after baby will breastfeeding.  It helps prevent certain birthdefects and such.
