Hi,
I took heparin during my two pregnancies. I stopped taking heparin during my first pregnancy at around 8 months. During my second pregnancy I took it until a day before my C-Section and continued taking it after my pregnancy for a couple of weeks there after. I do not think heparin is transmitted to the placenta, so I do not think there is a problem. However, I have had back pain ever since ( Not sure if it is related to this medication.) I experIenced allergic reactions which I believe had to be a result of this horrible medication for a long time after, plus I almost died because of excessive bleeding after pregnancy. I just heard about the heparin contamination issue and I think that with your Doc's permission your wife should stop taking it. Not because of the baby. Both of my children are fine but because of your wife's health.
The major risks to the baby are mainly if the baby is born early. There can be some bleeding (like a brain bleed) and things like that. but it also depends on the doseage of Heparin. The main reason they'll have her STOP heparin at that time is so that when she delivers there won't be any uncontrolled bleeding.
Heparin does not stay in the system too long, so once she's at 36w and they take her off it it'll be out of her system and the baby's.
obviously the doctors have decided that the Benefits outweigh the risks in your wife's case. Good luck and congradulations!
Heparin is generally used as anti-coagulant to prevent blood clots. I would assume thats why she's taking them??
ur wife has some liver problem? why she is taking that?
