They told my mom I had it. Turns out my sister was hiding behind me instead. You could be having twins.

You're welcome. Elevated AFP is fairly common whereas spina bifida is not. Best wishes.

Don't even worry yourself about it because the ultrasound was normal. If spina bifida was present the cerebellum of the brain would have appeared abnormal. Baby's fine. Don't stress yourself.

My doctor said the blood work showed high levels, but that my baby had a low chance of being born with it :\ lol unless that's their way of trying not to scare me. How can spina bifida affect my baby in the future?

The blood test is not a yes or no test. It is a risk assessment based on levels of alpha fetoprotein (AFP) in your blood. The level is reported as "multiples of the median, aka MOM). Do you know what your AFP level was?  Mildly elevated? Highly elevated?  I often see positive risk for spina bifida and ultrasound appears normal.
