Nicole:  I was thinking it was a blood test becuase many military clinics have gone to using those as standard pregnancy tests.

I hope the blood test comes back positive for you :)  i think the dr hpt urine requires alot of hormone because i was a month in a half last time with a negative result ?  fx for you !!!

Ya they do need more training most dr and nurses I deal with are morons. I really think there should a set level of hcg that states wetger or not u pregnant but I can say the reasons why every lab is different cause the machines that do testing are different but hey again in her case I would just retest to make sure

It happened to me my last pregnancy with Zoë, not this pregnancy. I never had a urine test this pregnancy. They just had me come in for the blood tests due to previous miscarriages right away so it was obvious from the start! Though my midwife DID say, "These levels look too low" with my FIRST result and I just rolled my eyes. Obviously they weren't too low because I'm 21 weeks pregnant, feel my baby move every single day and we know she's a girl. I think midwives and doctors need more training in early pregnancy detection!!!

This happened to me. I got several positive HPT's at 9 & 10 DPO and then went to the doctors at 11 DPO and their urine test was negative (my HCG was 58). I am now 15 weeks and everything is going great. They do say a blood test is more accurate.

I've seen some labs consider 5 and above to be pregnant, while others consider 10 or 25 and above. I think that all of these labs should get together and determine what level is considered pregnant in the beginning and stop stressing us out. lol.

@GA, I thought smjmekg had a pos hpt and then went to the dr and their urine test was neg. Idk, but either way one of the tests came back negative.

Just fyi I know most labs consider under a certain level on serum hcg neg. I know in my lab under 10 they consider neg. But each lab has different reference ranges.

No Joy I had no idea that happened to you LOL!  I was referring to smjmekg.  If my memory serves me correctly I believe she had taken a hpt and got a faint pos.  Then she went to the military medical clinic and they did a blood test and it came back negative.  She was in fact pregnant as we all know :)

GA - are you talking about me or someone else? Because that happened with me! I had a positive urine test at home and then drank too much water before my urine test at the doc's office and got a negative. Blood test confirmed my hCG was in the 200's!

I know a women, on this forum, who took a home urine test in the morine, got a faint positive, went in for blood work that afternoon and got a negative result from it.  Her daughter is now several months old!  Just saying it can happen! :)

Beingi lab tech I run both of these tests all the time usually ur blood or serum hcg test are going to be the most accurate.  I showed neg on my urine tests and when I ran my bloodwork I came up postive. I know the urine test are color sensitive and sometimes more often than not give false results.  I would trust the bloodtest more the machinery performing these tests are highly sensitive.  If one was positive and other neg I would go back for repeat bloodwork. The hormones show up faster in ur blood rather than ur urine good luck

Here is what i've learned. If they use the urine test strips, the sensitivity could be more or less than that of a blood test.  It also depends on whether or not it's a quantative or qualitative blood test.  Some women have had positive urine tests and negative blood tests or vice versa.
