how to check dialating?

I've never had a baby before but what do they use to see if you are dialated? And does it hurt?

Like the whole hand?? Cause my fiance has to work with it to get 2 fingers in and it hurts bad when he tries to do more than three. Sorry if that's tmi. I'm just saying if I'm not dialated and they try sticking all there fingers in ill cry lol

they start checking around 36 weeks. its not painful, just very uncomfortable. they stick their hand up there and feel for your cervix. idk if i was uncomfortable cause my cervix was still way high and i neve made it past 2 cm

Around 36 weeks.. To me it hurt. I'm not gonna lie. I'm 34 weeks and was having contractions so went to L&D and they checked for dilation and it hurt me a little bit. :( and Indeed I was 1 cm dilated

They use their fingers and it doesn't really hurt its just a little uncomfortable
