I have sickle cell trait too.. That may be the reason ??
RockRose gave a good explanation, I just wanted to add that if your dr hasn't given you separate iron supplement, at least make sure you continue taking your prenatal vitamins because they likely contain iron. Also, when taking an iron supplement or prenatal vitamins, try not to take them with milk. The calcium will inhibit iron absorption in your body. So no calcium one hr before or two hours after.
My was low last time I went next time if its still low I will have to take iron supplements until I give birth. My ob told me not to worry for the moment eat more iron enriched foods k kike red meat or oatmeal. I have a sickle cell trait so I know mine willbe low again
You need iron to produce red blood cells. So without iron, you develop anemia (low red blood count) and it makes you feel a little breathless because red blood cells carry oxygen and you have to breathe a little harder and your heart beats become more noticeable.
So it sounds like your doctor is on this and has increased your iron supplements?
Anemia is very common in pregnancy, by the way, and usually responds pretty quickly to treatment with oral iron supplements.
U can just be dizzy and whatnot youll need an.iron supplement. Why didnt you ask ur doc this while u were there?
