I had two cats when I was pregnant for my first son. I ended up finding a new home for one of them because she was WAY to lovable. She was constantly looking for attention. I was afraid she would be all over my baby. My other cat, I just kept a real close eye on her. I was constantly aware of were she was in relation to my son. Animals are animals and you have to watch them around babies. As long as you keep a good eye on the cat it should be fine.

You shouldn't let the cats have access to the baby's room. Cats will try to cuddle newborns for the warmth which can result in suffocation. The reason a cat is more dangerous than a dog or something is because dogs generally can't climb into the crib on their own. Also, you shouldn't change cat litter while you're pregnant, and you should keep it where the baby can't get to it after they're born. All pets can be dangerous, you just have to be careful.

The reason they say cats steal their breath is because some cats will smell the milk on the babies and get in their face. But I say as long as you just watch when the cats around then everything should be fine

And only life threatening because of suffocation! Not just because it's a cat!

I think it depends on your cat and also if you're watching the newborn constantly... My cat has a habit of sleeping on my neck and she likes to cuddle really close. Since newborns can't push the cat off of themselves, it can be life threatening... But if your cat usually doesn't get close to people, it shouldn't be a huge deal! Just watch at first and make sure the cat isn't harming the baby

I think you just have to keep the litter box away cause their poop has some type of bactieria? I don't know it's best to google lol.

When I had my first my husband and I were running a cat rescue and had twenty something cats. Our own cat had never been around a baby but took to our daughter like she had always known her. The other cats avoided her but our cat slept in the crib. Never got near her face but licked the top of her bed like she was giving her a bath and slept across her feet. Our daughter loved it and had a hard time sleeping without the cat by her side. Once our daughter got big enough to crawl the cat started to sleep under her bed so baby would not attack her. After my daughter turned two the cat was back in her bed and stayed there every night till she passed in 2014. She was with my daughter from the beginning and the last eight years. The only harm she did my daughter was when she passed it broke my daughter's heart. I have had cats with all my babies never had a problem and never heard anyone that was an actual person have a problem. There is plenty of hear say and old stories that go along with that old wife's tell but nothing of substance.

Old wives tales. Just be smart. Don't leave your cat in a room with your baby alone as yes the cat may want to cuddle up to the baby and cats have sharp claws and teeth. I have a cat I've had it since before I had my first I'm now pregnant with my third and they've all managed to survive with my cat. And you never know your cat may avoid the baby like the plague lol
