is marijuana safe

i have had hyperemesis gravidarum since i was 9 weeks pregnant. in and out of hospitals so many times its ridiculous. i have been to the point where i puked up so much blood and none of their medicines like phenergan or zofran or reglan would stop it so they had to knock me out. i almost died that day, it was the worst, most painful day of my life. well i found out that taking a few hits of weed makes the nausea and/or vomiting immediately go away.  i've looked it up and it seems there are no proven medical illnesses or conditions that come from smoking marijuana while pregnant, but still, i get panic attacks thinking i might be harming my unborn son. i know i'm taking a risk smoking, but i know cigarettes are worse and i stopped that way in the beginning.  if i dont smoke, i end up in the hospital getting the same ole meds shoved in my IV that DONT WORK. i am tired of this i want to stop smoking, but i cant just tell my doc i smoke weed to make it stop, or i fear my baby may be taken away from me.  i have ibs, a very bad acid reflux, and gastroparesis.  they say all these reasons on top of the hyperemesis is why i am puking, as well as the baby limiting the space in my belly. what do i do? puke my guts out to the point of almost dying, or smoke weed?? maybe if i puke so bad again they will induce me, but i doubt it. help!

This was taken off of the NIDA website: http://www.nida.nih.gov/Infofacts/marijuana.html

Research has shown that some babies born to women who abused marijuana during their pregnancies display altered responses to visual stimuli, increased tremulousness, and a high-pitched cry, which may indicate neurological problems in development. During the preschool years, marijuana-exposed children have been observed to perform tasks involving sustained attention and memory more poorly than nonexposed children do. In the school years, these children are more likely to exhibit deficits in problem-solving skills, memory, and the ability to remain attentive.

If any of these things are true, if I was smoking marijuana, I would probably stop. Definitely talk to your doctor.

I agree with the last poster you need to tell your doctor about the smoking weed thing and tell them why you are doing it. Maybe the can give you something else to try and help. I know that they wont induce until at least 37 weeks though.

i have no advice on smoking pot b/c i don't do it...  but as far as not telling your doctor you're doing, i think that's not a good idea.  you need to be able to trust your doctor and know they'll give you the best medical advice possible!

the only medication i've ever taken for sickness while pregnant was phengergan, but my cousin had to have some kind of pump hooked up to her well into her 2nd trimester that would give her a steady amount of medicine all day long to keep her well.  she even had to wear it at her wedding reception (she took it off long enough to get through the ceremony and pictures though!).  i don't know if they've maybe tried that for you or not.

i hope you feel better soon...  pregnancy really is an awesome experience (once you stop throwing up!!!).    :)    good luck to you!
