7wks, fetalpole, gest sac, no yolksac and no heartbeat!

i went for an emergency u/s last wednesday and at this scan im pretty sure that i should of been 7wks to that day (however late ovulation and conception could affect this) when i had the vaginal scan the snographer could see a fetal pole sizing 3.8mm a gestational sac, but no yolk sac and no fetal heart beat! is it possible that this could still be a viable pregnancy or an unfortunate miscarriage? i still feel pregnant (sore breats and sickness) and had a positive pregnancy test at home this monday gone! i have to wait until next friday untill my follow up scan which will total 16 days after my original u/s! my nerves are everywhere and they have not offered to do my bloods! is this because they are 99.9% sure i have miscarried or what i just don't know what to think or where to put my thoughts! please please could anyone shed some light? bad or good i just want to know or have an idea or what may lie ahead! thanks very much!

hey hun i just wanna say try not to worry to much i went in for early scan cus of light bleeding at 6 weeks they did the ultrasound and said they saw yolk sac etc but no heartbeat, they said that it cud just be to early and my dates were wrong she was adamant that i was 3 weeks lesser than i thoult had waited 10 days went back then there it was the heart i had been waiting for, the thing is the nurse that i saw after my 1st scan made it out like i was gonna miscarry, so 4 10 days i was a wreck luckily it was just her insensitive attitude that was wrong, i would wait for the scan there is always hope, they can get it wrong cus when i went for my 12 week scan i was expecting her to say i am 9 weeks cus the other lady was so adamant, but i wasnt i was nearly 3 weeks, so sometimes the formation can just take time i hope that is what it is for you, if not i am very sorry for your loss, just try and stay positivex

i did have spotting and this is why i phones the early pregnancy unit to double check everything was ok, i had a miscarriage before my first child was born, this was heavy brown/red bleeding and cramps, and continued over a period of 13wks altogether, and eventually resulted in a d and c operation to remove the baby as i did not naturally pass the pregnancy! i then became pregnant with my daughter phoebe and i spotted on her untill 8wks, and she was fine, I then became pregnant with my son riley and spotted on him too, untill 9wks and again he was fine! I have not had any pain with this pegnancy and it was light spotting for a few days! i don't know i think im going to have to wait untill next friday and have the follow up u/s! I just hate not knowing! thanks to you all for your quick replys! It feels supportive. :0)

Did you go to emergency because you were bleeding/cramping?  Of course that would indicate a miscarriage in most cases.  However, there are plenty of women on here that spot and there pregnancies turn out OK.
You could have ovulated later in your cycle, and maybe you are just under 6 weeks instead of 7 weeks.  If that is the case the heart will probably start beating in a few days.  I had an ultrasound at 5 1/2 weeks, didn't even see a fetal pole.... then went back at 6 weeks 3 days and saw a strong heartbeat.  Maybe you should get a second opinion and a different doctor will run your blood work for you that is actually why they SHOULD do your blood.  Doctors usually don't if there is no problem not the other way around.  Good luck to you hope everything works out.

I am so sorry you are having to go through this.  It may just be too early to see everything, especially if you didn't ovulate exactly when you thought you should have.  However, from personal experience it may not be good news.  With my first pregnancy I went in for a scan around 9 weeks and they could only see a gestational sac, nothing else, they had me go back the following week for a follow-up scan and still nothing, I was measuring a little over 6 weeks.  I had a miscarriage the following weekend.  The good news is that it still may be too early for you to see anything.  If it is a m/c I am very sorry, it was an incredibly emotional experience and very saddening.  However, I had the miscarriage on September 26, 2009 and today I am 9 weeks, 1 day pregnant.  So, hope remains.  Best wishes to you and keep us updated.
