last names

Sorry I feel like I've posted a million questions. Bit I'm on the fence about what baby's last name will be. My boyfriend and I aren't married and in fact he's still legally married to his other two kids mom. She still legally has to use his last name. Also I'm the only grandchild on my dad's side so the name stops with me. I wanna hyphen (my last name first then his last name) her last name instead of just giving her mine but then it would be 11 letters for mine 5 for his. 16 letters total. Her name would be this long: Hayleigh Jo ***********-*****. :( Idk what to do

Oh yeah my boyfriend should be glad we're having a girl. I'm the last in my family too so if it had been a boy there would be no changing my mind on it. It would've been my last name. Period

Her name would only be 5 letters longer than mine. Guess I'll just do that. It's gonna be interesting tryin to talk to him about it. But in my mind it's either both or just mine

If this baby is a boy I'm giving my maiden name as the second middle name despite hubs protesting. There are no grandsons with my family name so I figured I'd do it as a middle name

My daughter has a long name I figure I didn't want to exclude my family name. She has two middle names and two last names.. She'll pick what she wants to go by when she is older

I guess I'll just hyphen it for her birth certificate and formal documents and she can just use his last name.

Yeah I really wish he would. It drives me crazy. He's dead set on her having his last name.

Can't you always do a name change if necessary?

I was still married to my ex when i found out i was preg, i jumped straight on that and divorced him. With my BD now im considering a double name too but still unsure... the only reason i am considering it is because what if something did go wrong with BD??

Hmmm....there has to be a way around that price since they've been separated for that long. Uncontested divorce shouldn't be more than 600$

It's $500 just to file the paperwork. It'd be about $2,000 total

. .I'm stumped. It is long but maybe she'll understand why when she's old enough.

I would use your last name. I am not saying it will happen to you, but just for instance if they have a change of heart and work things out then that could be an issue. Plus its nice to have the same last name as your child. My mom named my sister after her father and they never got married she hated when people would call her mrs same last name as my sister.

He needs to file for a divorce. Yikes. They're not that expensive. When I was younger I was married for 2 yrs and my divorce cost 600$ total.

If just kinda weirds me out that yes she could have her dad's last name, but that his ex would too. Like she would have my daughters last name. He hasn't filed for divorce pretty much because it's so expensive
